PSAC Swimming Athletes of the Week - 5
West Chester's JACKIE BORKOWSKI and Clarion’s RYAN THIEL were multiple-event winners for their squads over the weekend, propelling them to honors as the PSAC Swimming Athletes of the Week.
WOMEN’S
Jackie Borkowski – West Chester
Jr, Morristown (Methacton)
Borkowski piled up six wins, including four individual victories, in West Chester’s 210-150 win over Southern Connecticut St. She swam under NCAA “B Cut” times in all of the individual events, winning the 50 (24.19), 100 (53.26) and 200 (1:55.44) freestyles and the 100 back (59.32). She also was also part of the first-place 400 medley and 800 free relay teams. Earlier this season Borkowski reached “A Cut” times in the 50 free (23.64) and 100 back (56.40), with times that rank sixth and third, respectively, in Division II.
MEN’S
Ryan Thiel – Clarion
Jr, Ligonier (Ligonier Valley)
Thiel played an instrumental role in Clarion’s narrow 147.5-145.5 win over Ashland, claiming three individual and one relay event for his Golden Eagle squad. Most significantly, he anchored the 400 free relay team in the final event of the contest, giving Clarion the two-point win. He also claimed gold in the 200 free with an NCAA “B Cut” time of 1:42.41, and won the 50 free (21.47) and 100 free (47.09) races, as well. Thus far, Thiel has three top 15 times in separate Division II events, including a 20.63 in the 50 free, which ranks eighth.
