Lock Haven, Pa. - Taylor Suskie of Millersville and Amanda Heister of California are this week’s PSAC Women’s Soccer Athletes of the Week, the final honorees of the 2009 season with the regular season having concluded this past weekend. Suskie is the East Player of the Week after recorded a pair of wins in goal and allowing just one goal combined in two overtime victories for the Marauders. Heister earns her second West Athlete of the Week award of the season after a performance last week that included a four-goal game en route to the Vulcans clinching the PSAC West title.


PSAC East Player of the Week
Taylor Suskie, Millersville
Sophomore, Goalkeeper

Suskie helped Millersville make a late run at a PSAC playoff berth and although the Marauders fell just one point short of clinching a berth, her play was most impressive in the final week of the regular season. For the week, she allowed just one goal in over 190 minutes of play in goal and made a total of 14 saves in a pair of overtime wins for Millersville. On Wednesday, she allowed just one goal and made three saves in 109:45 as Millersville upset Kutztown 2-1 in double overtime. On Saturday, Suskie made 11 saves and picked up her fourth shutout of the season as the Marauders defeated Shippensburg 1-0 in overtime to knock the Lady Raiders out of PSAC Tournament contention. For the week, Suskie had a 0.44 goals against average and an impressive .933 save percentage, as the Marauders finished the year on a 5-1-1 run in their last seven games and on a four-game winning streak.  

 

PSAC West Player of the Week
Amanda Heister, California
Senior, Forward
Palmyra, Pa./Northern Lebanon

Heister helped lead California to a pair of wins last week that clinched the PSAC West title for the Vulcans, the first in program history, and in doing so, also broke the school record for career goals and tied the mark for career points. In a 4-0 win over IUP last Wednesday, Heister scored all four goals for the Vulcans, breaking the school record for career goals with 42. On Saturday, in a 4-0 division-clinching win over Clarion, Heister assisted on Cal’s first goal of the game in the 11th minute, which would be the eventual game-winning goal. That assist gave her 103 career points, tying the school record.
