West Chester duo, IUP swimmer all posted numerous NCAA ‘A’ times

Lock Haven, Pa. - West Chester’s Max Bernardes posted three NCAA ‘A’ times in individual events to earn this week’s PSAC Men’s Swimmer of the Week award while his teammate on the women’s side, Jackie Borkowski, also swam to three NCAA ‘A’ times in indiivdual events in addition to being a part of five relay teams that swam ‘A’ times to earn the PSAC Women’s Co-Swimmer of the Week. IUP’s Jackie Hynson also posted three NCAA ‘A’ times as well as a ‘B’ qualifying time to earn the Women’s Co-Swimmer of the Week award.

 

PSAC Men’s Swimmer of the Week
Max Bernardes, West Chester

Bernardes swam to three NCAA ‘A’ automatic qualifying times and also swam on one relay team that posted an automatic qualifying time at last weekend’s Cavalier Invitational hosted by Virginia. Swimming in his home state, Bernardes posted an ‘A’ time of 15:53.37 in the 1650 freestyle, nearly five seconds better than the ‘A’ mark, and finished in fifth place. He also swam an ‘A’ time in the 500 free, touching the wall in 4:32.02, and in the 400 IM, putting up a time of 4:03.05. He also led off on the 800 free relay team that posted an automatic qualifying time.

 

PSAC Women’s Co-Swimmer of the Week
Jackie Borkowski, West Chester
Senior, Freestyle/Backstroke
Norristown, Pa./Methacton

Borkowski qualified for three individual events, posting three NCAA ‘A’ automatic qualifying times in those three events, and also helped all five relay teams hit automatic qualifying marks at the Cavalier Invitational hosted by Virginia last weekend. Borkowski, already a 16-time All-American, hit ‘A’ times in the 50 free (23.39), 100 free (:51.13) and 100 back (56.93) individually. She was also a member of all five relay squads - the 200, 400 and 800 free and the 200 and 400 medley relays - that swam NCAA automatic qualifying times.


PSAC Women’s Co-Swimmer of the Week

Sophomore, Backstroke/Butterfly
King George, Va./King George

Hynson recorded three NCAA ‘A’ automatic qualifying times and took first place in the 200 backstroke against a predominantly Division I field as IUP competed at the Zippy Invitational hosted by Akron last weekend. Hynson won the 200 back in an ‘A’ time of 2:03.36, nearly three seconds under the ‘A’ mark in the 200 back. Then, swimming in a time trial Friday morning as opposed to the actual event, Hynson posted an ‘A’ time of 2:03.74 in the 200 butterfly, over three seconds under the ‘A’ mark and breaking an 11-year old school record in the 200 fly. Hynson also posted an ‘A’ time in the 100 backstroke of :57.78, just .01 of a second under the ‘A’ mark, while swimming the leadoff leg of the 400 medley relay. She also swam a ‘B’ time of :57.96 in finishing fifth in the 100 butterfly.
