Lock Haven, Pa. - Brittany Muthard's 11th-inning home run broke a 1-1 tie and gave Lock Haven a 2-1 win over Kutztown on Saturday in the second game of the NCAA Atlantic Region Super Regional, the second straight extra-inning win over the Golden Bears for the Lady Eagles, and sent Lock Haven to the NCAA Division II Women's College World Series for the fourth straight year.
Kristin Erb earned wins in both games, pitching all 20 innings and allowing just one run, a first-inning solo home run by Steph Denlinger in Saturday's game. She allowed a combined nine hits and struck out seven in the two games.
The win gives Lock Haven, the four-time defending champions of the PSAC, a fourth consecutive trip to the World Series, which begins on Thursday in Salem, Va. The events will run from May 21-25.
In Saturday's game, after Denlinger's homer gave the Bears their only lead of the series, Lock Haven came back to tie it in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Julia Popovich. It remained tied until Muthard's one-out solo home run in the top of the 11th and then Erb set down the side in the bottom of the inning to wrap up the fourth straight regional championship for the Lady Eagles.
In Friday's game, a scoreless game was broken up in the bottom of the ninth inning when Amanda Roosa's RBI single drove home pinch runner Kirsten Labant to give the Lady Eagles the 1-0 win.
