West Lawn, Pa. - Regional MVP Charlie Kelly went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and Joe Wendle drove in three runs and went 2-for-4 as West Chester battered four different Mercyhurst pitchers for 19 hits to defeat the Lakers 14-0 and claim the NCAA Atlantic Regional championship. The Golden Rams advance to the NCAA Division II College World Series for the first time since 2006.
West Chester defeated the Lakers twice after also topping Mercyhurst last week in the PSAC Championship game. The Golden Rams also topped Concord and Shepherd in their first two games of the regional to finish a perfect 4-0. The College World Series will be held May 23-30 in Cary, N.C. at the USA Baseball Training Complex.
In each game of the regional, West Chester's starting pitchers lasted at least six innings and in three of the four games, went at least eight, including one complete game. The Golden Rams will take on the South Region champion in their first game at the World Series.
