Golden Rams to take on South Region champs Lynn

NCAA Division II College World Series Headquarters

Cary, N.C. - The West Chester baseball team, champions of the NCAA Atlantic Region, will open up play at the NCAA Division II College World Series on Sunday when they take on Lynn University, the champions of the South Region.

West Chester (46-10) won the Atlantic Regional title last weekend by going 4-0 at the regional hosted by Kutztown in West Lawn, Pa. It included a 14-0 win over Mercyhurst in the championship game, just over a week after defeating the Lakers 16-2 in the championship game of the PSAC Tournament to cap a 3-0 run at the rain-shortened event. Overall, the Golden Rams enter the CWS on a 10-game winning streak and winners of 23 of their last 24 games. They are yet to lose in the month of May and have lost just two games since the beginning of April.

If victorious on Sunday, the Golden Rams would face the winner of the Dowling/UC-San Diego contest on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. If they were to lose, they would face the loser of the same game at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. West Chester has not played Lynn this year and of the other seven teams in the field, have played just one this year, that being a 2-1 extra-innings win over Dowling in late February. However, PSAC and regional runner-up Mercyhurst did defeat Lynn in an early-season game in Florida as they split two games with Lynn at the Palm Beach Challenge in Boca Raton, Fla.

The College World Series is scheduled to run from May 23-30. The championship game is slated for Saturday, May 30 at noon and will be televised live by the CBS-College Sports Network.
