California Qualifies Two for NCAA Championship

California's Simone DeSouza and Dianne Luke qualified as individuals for the NCAA Championship, with third- and 10th-place finishes, respectively, at the regional championship held May 3-5.  DeSouza qualified for the third straight year with a 13-over par score over the three-day event, only two shots off the medalist pace.  Luke was 22 over for the tournament.

The national championship is slated for Findlay, Ohio, May 13-16.



The California women's golf team is one of nine teams selected to participate in the 2009 NCAA Division II Super Region One Championship, May 3-5, it was announced yesterday. 

The Vulcans are seeded fourth for the upcoming championships and will serve as the host institution as the tournament takes place at Cedarbrook Golf Club in Bell Vernon, Pa..

The regional tournament is one of four three-day tournaments taking place from May 3-5 or 4-6, which will consist of 72 holes of play. More details can be seen in the NCAA Release listed below. 

California won the inaugural Pennsylvania State Athletic Conferece Women's Golf Championship held this past fall at the Hershey Links.  In the spring of 2008, the Vulcans finished fourth at the NCAA Super Regional.  Simone DeSouza highlighed the team's efforts by qualifying individually for the NCAA Championships and earning All-America status with a 15th-place finish.

NCAA RELEASE

INDIANAPOLIS---The NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Committee has selected the teams and individuals that will compete in the NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championships.

The 2009 NCAA Division II women’s golf super regional competition will be conducted May 3-5 and 4-6. Each super regional will consist of both team and individual competition conducted concurrently with nine teams and four individuals from non-qualifying teams at each site. All participants will compete throughout the 54 holes of competition. The top three teams along with the top three individuals not with a team from each super regional, will advance to the championships.

The 2009 NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championships will be held May 13-16, at the University of Findlay in Findlay, Ohio.

The championships will consist of both team and individual competition conducted concurrently. All participants will compete throughout the entire 72 holes of competition. In the team competition, the low four scores for each team will count in each day’s total score. The number of participants that qualify for the finals is 72.
