Millersville, Pa. - In a meet that featured several close finishes in individual events, it turned out to be a close finish for the team title as well. In the end, Slippery Rock successfully defended its team title from last year but it was a much closer race for the top spot than last year.

After winning the team title by nearly 100 points last year, The Rock had to hold off a loaded Shippensburg squad this year as Slippery Rock won by just 16.5 points this year, accumulating a winning score of 179 points to edge out the Lady Raiders' 162.5 points.

The Rock captured first place in the 4x400 relay, the 4x100 relay, the 3000 steeplechase with Laura Mucho, the 200 meters with Lacey Cochran and the 400 hurdles with Amanda Seigworth. Several other top three finishes helped spur The Rock to the top of the standings.

The meet also featured some other exciting finishes between some of the top athletes in the PSAC. In the women's 400 meters, Shippensburg's Erica Hess topped Rock's Cochran by just .12 of a second. The Raiders' Siobhan Richards beat out Tiffany Tedesco of Slippery Rock by just .01 of a second to win the 100 meters. Cochran just edged out her teammate Tedesco in the 200 meters by just .05 of a second in the 200 meters. Neely Spence, who won the 5000 meters and had previously edged out Millersville's Priscilla Jennings by less than a tenth of a second in the 1500 meters at the PSAC indoor championships in February, had the tables reversed in the finals of the 1500 on Saturday as Jennings won by just .02 of a second. Spence, however, won the 3000 meters by just over two seconds.

Maddy Outmann of IUP had an outstanding meet as well, as in addition to winning the heptathlon, she won the 100 meter hurdles and finished second in the long jump en route to being named the outstanding athlete of the meet as well as the field athlete of the meet. Jennings was named the track athlete of the meet. Jennings also set the PSAC meet record in winning the 1500 meters.
