Long records two shutouts, Robbins tallies 10 points over the last week

Lock Haven, Pa. - Shippensburg goalkeeper Beth Long recorded a pair of shutouts in two games last week while IUP midfielder Heather Robbins tallied a total of 10 points in a pair of games last week. For their performances last week, both are this week’s PSAC Women’s Soccer Athletes of the Week, Long in the Eastern Division and Robbins in the Western Division.   


PSAC East Player of the Week
Beth Long, Shippensburg
Graduate Student, Goalkeeper
Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga

Long played 200 minutes of scoreless action in goal for the Lady Raiders, who went 1-0-1 on the week. The graduate student made a total of 12 saves in Shippensburg’s two games to help the Lady Raiders move up in the standings in the crowded PSAC East. Against Kutztown, which has defeated two ranked teams this year, Long made five saves and faced 15 shots while holding the Golden Bears scoreless for 110 minutes in a 0-0 tie. On Saturday, Long followed that up with seven saves to help lead the Raiders to their second straight shutout a 1-0 win over previous conference unbeaten and preseason co-favorite Bloomsburg. Long needs just two more shutouts in her career to break the school record.

 

PSAC West Player of the Week
Heather Robbins, IUP
Sophomore, Defender/Midfielder
Frederica, Del./Polytech

Robbins scored four goals and recorded two assists in a 2-0 week for IUP, scoring two goals and recording an assist in each game. In a 7-0 win over Lock Haven, Robbins recorded two assists, both on goals by Sarah Romasco, the put the Crimson Hawks up 2-0 and later 3-0. She then scored two straight of her own goals to put IUP up 5-0. In a 4-1 over Edinboro, she scored the first two goals of the game, including the eventual game-winner, giving the Crimson Hawks all they would need to win the game, and also assisted on Paige Virgara’s goal, which was the third goal of the game for IUP.
