PSAC Women's Golf Athlete of the Week - 4
9.29.2009
(L-R) Karen Cash and Dianne Luke
East Stroudsburg's KAREN CASH and California's DIANNE LUKE have been named Co-Athletes of the Week after both claimed medalist honors at separate tournaments.
Karen Cash - East Stroudsburg
Freshman
Allendale, N.J. / Northern Highlands
Cash won the rain-shortened Clarion Invitational, firing a two-day total of 117 over 27 holes. Battling through tough weather conditions, Cash was one of two golfers in a field of 61 to shoot under 80 for the first day as her opening-round 75 gave her a four-stroke lead at the Clarion Oaks par-72 layout. She followed with a nine-hole score of 42 on Sunday to claim the medalist title by two strokes.
Dianne Luke - California
Sophomore
Mirisarawak, Malaysia
Luke led California to a third-place team finish by winning the individual title at the William Bing-Beall Classic, hosted by the University of Findlay on Monday-Tuesday. Luke's two-day 8-over total of 152 tied for the tournament's low round with Caitlin Bennett of Grand Valley State, yet Luke was crowned medalist after winning a playoff.
Luke, an NCAA II Championship qualifier last year, now has eight top-10 finishes in her career. This effort, however, marked her first individual title on the collegiate level.
