PSAC Men's Soccer Athletes of the Week - 2

Lock Haven, Pa - Senior Nicholas Thompson and junior, Kyle Loughlin receive PSAC Athlete of the Week honors after completion of both of their teams’ 2-0 week. Both midfielders, Thompson, who is on a three game scoring streak and Loughlin’s all-around offensive efforts have come up big in this past week of competition.

Senior Nicholas Thompson receives this week’s PSAC Athlete of the Week for the Western Division. After completion of Mercyhurst’s 2-0 week, Thompson posted two goals and one assist. In Wednesday’s game vs. Houghton, the veteran midfielder scored in the second half and assisted on Dean Atkins’ game-winning goal in the 74th minute. At Lock Haven, on Sunday, Thompson scored in the first few minutes of the game, which was the eventual game-winner, and set up teammate, Christoph Hamel during a corner kick for the game winning goal. Thompson has scored one goal in each of the last three games, the first three-game goal scoring streak for Mercyhurst since September 2007. Kyle Loughlin of Millersville is this week’s PSAC Athlete of the Week for the Eastern Division. He helped No. 3 Millersville complete a 2-0 week with a goal and an assist on a game-winning goal. During Wednesday’s game against East Stroudsburg, Loughlin assisted on Anthony Pagnotti’s game-winning goal for the PSAC East opening win. Loughlin’s efforts continued Saturday against Bloomsburg when the junior put Millersville on top during the 14th minute of competition. His goal ended up being the game-winner as the Marauders earned a 2-0 victory.
