PSAC Swimmers of the Week - 5 (Jan. 19)

Lock Haven, Pa. - West Chester’s Kenny McCormick and Erin Fischer have been named this week’s PSAC Swimmers of the Week. After a month-long layoff, the PSAC weekly swimming awards begin again this week and will follow in each week up until the week of the PSAC Swimming Championships next month. McCormick and Fischer both notched NCAA qualifying times in their first competitive swims of the new year last weekend.


PSAC Men’s Swimmer of the Week
Kenny McCormick, West Chester
Junior, Butterfly/IM
West Chester, Pa./Henderson

McCormick took first place in the 400 IM in Friday night’s dual meet with Division III power Johns Hopkins, cracking the top 10 times in West Chester school history in the 400 IM with his time of 4:09.42, good enough for an NCAA ‘B’ provisional qualifying time. McCormick also just missed a ‘B’ time in the 200 IM with his time of 1:57.70 that placed him in second place. He also placed third in the 200 butterfly, touching the wall in 1:59.19.


PSAC Women’s Swimmer of the Week
Erin Fischer, West Chester
Junior, Butterfly/IM

Fischer won three events in Friday’s dual meet with Johns Hopkins, putting up one NCAA ‘A’ automatic qualifying time and two NCAA ‘B’ qualifying times in her three individual wins. Fischer won the 100 butterfly in an ‘A’ time of :57.18, a hundreth of a second under the ‘A’ standard. She also put up ‘B’ times in winning the 200 IM (2:11.23) and 200 butterfly (2:07.88), with her time in the 200 fly less than a second shy of the ‘A’ standard. Fischer was also a part of the 200 medley relay team that finished first in a time of 1:50.17.
