Kutztown, Mercyhurst and Gannon clinch final berths on Saturday

Lock Haven, Pa. - The field has been set for the 2010 PSAC Men's Basketball Tournament, which will begin next Tuesday, March 2 with four quarterfinal games held at the campus sites of the higher seeded teams. All of Tuesday's game will begin at 7:00 p.m. The four remaining teams will then advance to the semifinals, which will be held next Friday, March 5 at the site of the highest remaining seed out of the Eastern Division. The championship is slated for next Saturday night.

Mansfield clinched the No. 1 seed out of the PSAC East with its win over Millersville today and will take on the No. 4 seed Kutztown in the quarterfinals. The Golden Bears wrapped up the final spot out of the East with a 75-68 win over Bloomsburg today. This will be a rematch of last year's quarterfinal game, only with the roles reversed as this time Mansfield will host after Kutztown hosted last year. The Mountaineers took the top seed by virtue of their split with Kutztown, while East Stroudsburg, which tied for first place with Mansfield, lost twice to the Golden Bears. The No. 2 Warriors will host No. 3 Cheyney in the other East quarterfinal.

In the West, No. 1 IUP will host No. 4 Gannon, the defending PSAC Tournament champions, while No. 2 Clarion will host No. 3 Mercyhurst. The Crimson Hawks have a 3.5-game lead in the division heading into tonight's regular season finale and wrapped up the division last week. Depending on the result of tonight's Gannon-Lock Haven game, Mercyhurst will either finish one game ahead of Gannon or tied with the Golden Knights for third place, but the Lakers hold the tiebreaker by virtue of their season sweep over California, while the Knights split with the Vulcans.
