West Chester to Play for NCAA Lacrosse Title on Sunday on CBS-College Sports
West Chester defeated Lock Haven 9-8 in overtime in the first semifinal on Saturday to advance to the national championship game. With the win, the Golden Rams avenged a blowout loss at the hands of Lock Haven just three weeks ago in the PSAC Championship game and will play in the national championship game for the sixth time in the last seven years. The Rams, national champions in 2008, will play the defending national champions, Adelphi, which defeated C.W. Post 14-9 in the second semifinal.
Sunday's national title game will be televised live to a national audience by CBS College Sports at 3:00 p.m. following the Division III title game. This marks the seventh straight year that a PSAC team has played in the national title game. West Chester made five straight appearances in the national title game from 2004-08 while Lock Haven played in the title game last year.

West Chester, which won a first round game at home last weekend against Limestone, and Lock Haven, which won the PSAC championship over the Golden Rams three weekends ago, will square off in a national semifinal on Saturday in Gettysburg, Pa. for the right to play for the national championship on Sunday in the NCAA Division II women's lacrosse tournament. Lock Haven is making its second straight appearance in the semifinals after being the national runners-up last year while West Chester is back in the semifinals after an absence last year.
The four teams responsible for winning seven of the nine national championships since the NCAA Division II lacrosse tournament began in 2001 are represented at this weekend's semifinals - C.W. Post and Adelphi in the other semifinal, and West Chester. The Golden Rams won the national title two years ago in 2008 after having been the national runners-up in the previous four seasons. West Chester missed out on the NCAA Tournament last year, as Lock Haven advanced to its first ever championship game.
This year's championship will be held at Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, Pa. Once again, both the Division II and Division II women's lacrosse championships will be contested at the same site on the same weekend. Lock Haven and West Chester will be the first D-II semifinal at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and that game will be followed by C.W. Post-Adelphi. The championship game is set for Sunday at 3:00 p.m. and will be televised live on CBS-College Sports.
