Lock Haven, Pa. - IUP's Sarah Pastorek averaged a double-double as she helped the Crimson Hawks stay within a game of first place in the PSAC West with two wins to earn the PSAC West Athlete of the Week award. Mansfield's Mallory Moore earns her second East Athlete of the Week honor of the season after a solid all-around performance helped move her further up the Mounties' career lists in two categories.
East Stroudsburg's Jessica Martin earns her fourth East Freshman of the Week accolade of the season after a career performance while Clarion's Hannah Heeter is the West Freshman of the Week for the second consecutive week after posting two more double-doubles, giving her three in her last four games.
PSAC East Athlete of the Week
Mallory Moore, Mansfield
Senior, Guard
Beech Creek, Pa./Central Mountain
Moore averaged 18.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3.5 steals in Mansfield's 1-1 week. Highlighting her performance was a 20-for-21 showing from the free throw line (95.2 percent). In Wednesday's 70-58 win over East Stroudsburg, Moore scored 19 points, hauled in nine boards, dished out five assists and blocked a pair of shots while making 10-of-11 free throws. She followed that up with 18 points, nine boards, four assists and six steals while making all 10 of her free throw attempts in a loss to Shippensburg. Moore's performances moved her into third place in school history in career scoring and sixth in career rebounds. She is now just one of three players in Mansfield history with 1,300 points and 700 rebounds.
PSAC East Freshman of the Week
Jessica Martin, East Stroudsburg
Freshman, Forward
Brownstown, Pa./Conestoga Valley
Martin averaged 11.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists as East Stroudsburg went 1-1 over the last week. She scored a career-high 22 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the floor and 7-of-8 from the free throw line and also added eight rebounds and three assists in Wednesday's 70-58 loss to Mansfield. She then struggled from the field on Saturday, scoring just one point from the free throw line but she contributed six rebounds, three assists, two steals and three blocks to help the Warriors top the Golden Bears. Martin, who entered the week third in the PSAC in blocks, tied the ESU freshman record for blocks with her 33rd of the season.

Sarah Pastorek, IUP

Pastorek averaged a double-double with 16.0 points and 12.0 rebounds to help lead IUP to a pair of wins last week over California and Clarion. She made 13-of-25 shots (52 percent) and 6-of-8 free throws (75 percent) and also contributed 2.5 steals and 2.0 blocks per game. Playing without frontcourt mate Ashley Stoner against California on Wednesday, Pastorek posted her third double-double of the season with 15 points and a career-high 18 rebounds in a season-high 36 minutes to lead the Crimson Hawks to a 62-43 win over the rival Vulcans. She then came back on Saturday to score 17 points and grab six boards in a 67-60 win over Clarion.

Hannah Heeter, Clarion
Freshman, Forward
Seneca, Pa./Cranberry
Heeter posted a pair of double-doubles and contributed an all-around effort for the Golden Eagles as she finished the week with averages of 10.5 points, 12.5 rebounds, 4.5 steals, 3.0 blocks and 2.0 assists to earn her second straight Freshman of the Week honor. Heeter made 10-of-16 shots from the field (62.5 percent) and her only free throw attempt. On Wednesday against Mercyhurst, she posted 10 points, 12 rebounds, four blocks, four steals and two assists. She followed that up with 11 points, 13 boards, five steals, two assists and two blocks against IUP on Saturday.
Team Notes
Bloomsburg
Senior Kelsey Gallagher missed the first game in her career when she sat out the game with Cheyney after suffering an injury against Shippensburg ... Catherine Noack got first start of the season and scored 11 points in place of Gallagher ... The Huskies forced a season-high 35 turnovers in beating Cheyney. It was the fourth time this season Bloomsburg has forced a team into 30 or more turnovers ... The Huskies also held the Wolves to 20 second half points. It was the second best defensive effort for a half since limiting Bowie State to 18 points in the second game of the season ... Bloomsburg drained 12 three-pointers in the win over Cheyney. It was the fifth time this season the Huskies have had double digits in made three's in a game.
California
The Vulcans opened PSAC West play last week with a split against nationally-ranked teams, Nos. 21 IUP and Gannon … After winning seven of the last eight meetings against IUP, Cal U suffered a 62-43 loss on Wednesday … The Vulcans responded with a 72-63 upset of the Golden Knights on Saturday … Senior F Amy Johns became the 24th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point plateau over the weekend and ranks No. 22 with 1,014 career points … Johns leads the team this season in both scoring and rebounding with career highs in both categories … Freshman G Chelsea McKnight tied her season highs with 13 points and seven rebounds on Saturday while making her first start since Dec. 4.
Cheyney
The Lady Wolves and Marauders were forced to postpone their mid-week tilt this past week due to a water main break on the Cheyney campus … The contest will be made up on January 16 at 1:00 pm … In the only game Cheyney played this past week the Lady Wolves fell to Bloomsburg. Cheyney committed 35 turnovers in the loss. The Lady Wolves are still looking for their first victory of the season.
Clarion
Freshman Hannah Heeter continues to emerge as Clarion's top player after exhibiting a pair of all-around performances during the week with two double-doubles including a 13-rebound performance Saturday vs. IUP. She also had a career-best 4 blocked shots Wednesday against Mercyhurst and 5 steals Saturday vs. IUP. In her last 5 games she is averaging 12.4 points, 11 rebounds, 3.2 steals, 2 blocks and 2 assists per game ... Sr. forward Courtney Healy had five blocks during the week giving her 110 in her career, two shy of tying Janelle Zabresky for 4th in school history ... So. G Emma Fickel moved into the Top 10 in school history in made 3-pointers with 125. She has hit at least one three in 40 straigh games.
East Stroudsburg
Two Warriors set career-highs with 22 points in a 1-1 week ... Fr. F Jessica Martin had 22 with 8 rebounds in a 70-58 loss vs. Mansfield on Wednesday ... So. G Andrea Veres had 22 (after being held scoreless vs. Mansfield) in a 62-55 win vs. Kutztown on Saturday ... Veres, wearing #2 with her usual #32 missing in action, had her first double-figure game since Dec. 10 (averaged 11.3 in first 8 games) ... Martin is a 3-time PSAC East Freshman of the Week, and Veres won the award 5 times last year ... Jr. F Fayola Moise, who missed the Mansfield game, tied her career-high with 15 rebounds vs. Kutztown ... She also had 15 in a win at Lock Haven on Jan. 6 ... Martin tied ESU's freshman record with 33 blocks this season ... She was 3rd in the PSAC with 2.3 blocks/game last week ... ESU is 6-8 (3-7), surpassing its five wins from last season, heading to Millersville and Shippensburg this week.
Edinboro
Edinboro (14-0, 10-0 PSAC) jumped to No. 5 in the latest USA TODAY/ESPN Top 25 poll this week, the highest national ranking in school history … The Fighting Scots defeated No. 21 Gannon, 72-62 on the road in battle of nationally-ranked teams. Junior guard Kiara Brown paced the Scots with 24 points, four assists and three steals. Senior forward Renee’ Brown added 13 points, seven rebounds and three steals … Junior forward Samantha Blazetic poured in a career-high 25 points and added five blocks and seven rebounds as Edinboro dropped Lock Haven, 82-52. Sophomore forward Morgyn Patterson scored season-best 10 points in first action since Dec. 10 … Edinboro matched the school record for consecutive victories … Edinboro enters the week along with UC San Diego as the only unbeaten women’s teams in NCAA Division II … The team travels to No. 21 Indiana (Pa.) on Jan. 18 and Slippery Rock on Jan. 21.
Gannon
Gannon suffered a pair of losses during the opening week of PSAC Western Division play … The Lady Knights faced a tough test in No. 5 Edinboro on Wednesday, falling by a 72-62 score … The Lady Knights pulled within one point with just over five minutes to play, but couldn't pull off the upset against the Fighting Scots. Gannon was hampered by 28 turnovers and a 15-23 effort from the free throw line … Saturday against California (Pa.), the Lady Knights allowed 18 offensive rebounds for the second straight game as the Vulcans were able to pull away during the final five minutes of the game for a 72-63 win … Doriyon Glass was the offensive leader this week, averaging 13 points. She turned in a career-best scoring effort against Edinboro, finishing 5-of-5 from the floor … Gannon will play Mercyhurst on Wednesday before playing Clarion at home on Saturday.
IUP
The 21st-ranked Crimson Hawks went 2-0 during the week, defeating rival Cal in a big way 62-43 at home on Wednesday before holding on to beat Clarion 67-60 on the road on Saturday … With the wins, along with Gannon’s loss on Saturday, the Crimson Hawks moved into sole possession of second place in the PSAC West with a 9-1 record (13-1 overall), one game behind seventh-ranked Edinboro (14-0, 10-0), which they play on Wednesday … Jr. F Sarah Pastorek came up big with her third double-double of the season against Cal, scoring 15 points while adding a career-high 18 rebounds … She came back to score a game-high 17 points in the win at Clarion.
Kutztown
Kutztown (4-12 overall) fell to 2-8 in the PSAC after falling to West Chester and ESU … KU's 73 points against WCU was the second most it scored on an opponent this season … It also had its best shooting performance of the season against the Golden Rams as it shot 26-for-55 from the field (47 percent) … KU hit a season-high eight 3-pointers against both East Stroudsburg and West Chester.
Lock Haven
Lock Haven (6-7, 5-5 PSAC) went 1-1 this week in its first two games of PSAC West play ... The Lady Eagles went on the road Wednesday to Slippery Rock where they defeated The Rock 59-46 ... They fell Saturday night on the road to No. 5 Edinboro 82-52 … Peaches Nesmith led the Lady Eagles in scoring for the week, averaging 12.5 points over the two games. Nesmith leads the team in scoring and rebounding for the season, averaging 15.9 points per game and 6.7 rebounds per game … Sharay Hall is second on the team in scoring and rebounds. Hall averages 12.2 points per game and 6.3 rebounds per game … The Lady Eagles will host their first two PSAC West opponents of the season next week when they take on Clarion (January 18) and California (Pa.) (January 21).
Mansfield
The Mounties went 1-1 over the week, posting a 70-58 victory over East Stroudsburg in the PSAC East opener on Wednesday before dropping a 64-51 decision to Shippensburg Saturday afternoon ... The PSAC scoring leader, Mallory Moore, averaged 18.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game over the week, moving into third in program scoring and sixth in program rebounding ... Moore also earned the distinction of being one of three Mounties to record over 1,300 points and 700 rebounds ... Mansfield shot a perfect 14 of 14 from the free throw line against Shippensburg ... The Mounties rank 13th in the conference in scoring offense at 59.9 points per game while ranking 15th in scoring defense, giving up and average of 72.3 points per contest ... Mansfield travels to Bloomsburg on Wednesday, Jan. 18.
Mercyhurst
The Lakers won their division-opener, 55-46, at Clarion, before falling to Slippery Rock 75-67 Saturday ... Nikki Frederickson, the two-time defending PSAC Western Division athlete of the week, totaled 36 points in the two games ... Freshman Lindsay Stamp dropped 24 points, including five three-pointers, in 22 minutes against Slippery Rock ... Hurst has won eight of its last 10 outings heading into a difficult stretch of the schedule ... Coach Deanna Richard's squad takes on Gannon, Indiana (Pa.), and Edinboro in its next three contest-all three foes are ranked in the latest national poll ... Stamp leads all PSAC rookies in scoring at 13.3 per game ... Mercyhurst is 6-4 in the conference, tied for fourth place in the West with California (Pa.).
Millersville
Millersville lost its opening PSAC East game for the second time in as many seasons ... The Marauders fell in a heartbreaker to West Chester on Saturday by a score of 61-59 with a final shot at half court for a chance to win … Millersville had four players in double-figures, including Aurielle Mosley who collected her fourth-straight,ninth of the season, double-double … The Marauders are now 3-4 (2-3 PSAC) when scoring less than 60 points … It is Millersville's first loss this season in a game decided by five or fewer points … The Marauders are 4-0 after a loss in 2011-12 and will get a chance to make that 5-0 on Monday, Jan. 16 at Cheyney in a game that was rescheduled from last Wednesday.
Shippensburg
Shippensburg won its seventh-straight game over Mansfield, 64-51 from Decker Gymnasium, in a 1-1 week overall ... Dana Wert recorded her fifth 20-plus point game of the season and had a career-high nine rebounds in a splendid effort against Bloomsburg ... Junior Monae Baker had her fifth double-double of the season with 15 points and 14 rebounds versus Bloomsburg ... Sophomore Sarah Strybuc dished out a career-high five assists at Mansfield and matched her career high of five steals against the Mounties ... She recorded that career high against Bloomsburg on Wednesday ... Sophomore Codi McMaster played a career-high 23 minutes against the Huskies and set new career highs for rebounds (5) and assists (2).
Slippery Rock
Slippery Rock split its Western Division openers, falling at home to Lock Haven before defeating Mercyhurst on the road ... The Rock shot a season-high 54.3 percent from the field and scored the second highest point total of the year in the win over Mercyhurst ... Paris Thomas handed out 11 assists against Lock Haven and eight assists against Mercyhurst to increase her assists per game average to 6.0.
West Chester
Allison Hostetter scored a game-high 21 points and Ambreelinne Ortman added 17 as visiting West Chester erased a halftime deficit to come from behind and defeat host Kutztown, 78-73, in a PSAC East women’s basketball contest inside Keystone Arena Wednesday night … West Chester (10-3, 6-3 PSAC) stepped up its defensive pressure in the second half and got to the line more often to pull away from Kutztown (4-11, 2-7), who had taken a 42-36 lead into the break … Ortman then scored 14 points while Hostetter and Shamyra Hammond tallied 13 to lead West Chester to a key 61-59 victory over host Millersville on Saturday … Millersville hit a jumper with five seconds left to pull within two and then forced a turnover with two ticks left. Following a timeout by the Marauders, Mashira Newman’s 3-point attempt was off the mark, and West Chester escaped with the win to remain in a tie for first in the PSAC East with Bloomsburg.
