Lock Haven, Pa. - East Stroudsburg's Cyara Woodridge and Mercyhurst's Nikki Frederickson are the PSAC Athletes of the Week, both earning the awards for the first time in their respective careers.
East Stroudsburg's Jessica Martin earns her third East Freshman of the Week honor of the season while Slippery Rock's D'Asia Chambers helped The Rock to a win in her season debut to earn the West Freshman of the Week award.
PSAC East Athlete of the Week
Cyara Woodridge, East Stroudsburg
Senior, Guard
Philadelphia, Pa./Freire Charter
Woodridge recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds to help East Stroudsburg rally back from a 16-point deficit with 16 minutes left and notch a 55-53 win over Philadelphia, which entered the game sitting in first place in the CACC. It was her first double-double of the season and the third of her career. Woodridge scored nine of her points in the second half, including consecutive baskets late to give ESU its first lead of the game. She made 8-of-17 shots from the field and also recorded a pair of steals.

Jessica Martin, East Stroudsburg
Freshman, Forward
Brownstown, Pa./Conestoga Valley
Martin earns her third East Freshman of the Week award of the season after also posting a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds in ESU's comeback win over Philadelphia last Friday. She made 6-of-9 shots from the field and also tied her career-high with five blocks. She contributed to the Warriors' comeback by posting eight points and eight boards in the second half.
PSAC West Athlete of the Week
Nikki Frederickson, Mercyhurst
Senior, Forward
Jamestown, N.Y./Jamestown
Frederickson helped Mercyhurst to an 80-70 win over Notre Dame College in the Lakers' only game of the week as she scored a career-high 27 points on 11-of-14 shooting from the field (78 percent). She also had three rebounds, dished out three assists and made a pair of steals while draining her only three-point attempt and making 4-of-6 free throws.
PSAC West Freshman of the Week
D'Asia Chambers, Slippery Rock
Freshman, Guard
Sharon, Pa./Ferrell
Making her Slippery Rock debut, Chambers helped lead The Rock to a comeback 62-57 win over Notre Dame College in overtime last Wednesday as she came off the bench to notch a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. She made 7-of-17 shots from the field, 1-of-2 free throws and also added a pair of assists. Chambers scored four points in the final minute of the regulation to help send the game to overtime, where Rock came away with the win.
Team Notes
Bloomsburg
The Huskies improved their winning streak to five games with a 72-55 win over Georgian Court last week ... Lauren Ellis posted her second career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds in the win ... As a team the Huskies have shot over 41 percent from the floor in 10 of 12 games this season. By contrast the Huskies have held opponents below 40 percent in nine of 12 games this season ... Dana Wieller needs just five more made three pointers to break the Huskies career record of 207 held by Michelle Albanese.
California
The Vulcans return to the court this weekend with a pair of home PSAC Crossover games following a 17-day layoff … Cal U has posted a 4-2 record in league crossovers this season … The Vulcans are 4-0 under interim head coach Jess Strom and have won each game by over 20 points … Cal U is 20-7 all-time against Millersville with the last meeting coming in the second round of the 2010 NCAA Tournament when the Marauders posted a 74-63 win at Hamer Hall … The Vulcans also own 15-2 record against West Chester with the last meeting in the semifinals of the 2009 PSAC Tournament, which Cal U won 81-63.
Cheyney
Cheyney has not played since hosting Virginia State on December 16, when they fell to VSU 73-45 to Virginia State … That was Cheyney's final non-league game of the season … Cheyney will return to the hardwood on January 6 & 7 when it travels to Slippery Rock and Mercyhurst in the final crossover games of the year.
Clarion
Clarion has won two of its past three games and a big reason is sophomore forward Ann Deibert, who is averaging 15.3 ppg, 7.3 rpg during that stretch. She has scored in double digits in 7 of Clarion's 10 games this year ... Freshman Hannah Heeter has continued to play solid, especially in the rebounding department, since joining the Golden Eagles following volleyball season. She is averaging 7.5 rpg and if you take out her first game when she played just five minutes she is averaging nearly nine boards a contest including twice going hitting double digits ... PG Raven Jones set a career-high with 10 rebounds vs. Seton Hill Dec. 29 and also tied her career high with nine assists the same day.
East Stroudsburg
ESU overcame a 16-point deficit with 16 minutes left to upset Philadelphia U, 55-53, on the road on Friday ... Warriors improved to 4-6 and ended a four-game losing streak in their final non-conference game ... Sr. G Cyara Woodridge (17 points, 10 rebounds) and Fr. F Jessica Martin (12-11, 5 blocks) both had double-doubles ... Woodridge had 9 points and Martin had 8 points and 8 rebounds in the 2nd half ... Woodridge leads ESU with 12.1 ppg and has led team in scoring in three straight games ... Martin had her 2nd double-double of the year ... Warriors are at Lock Haven and Edinboro next weekend before beginning PSAC East schedule ... ESU has won 3 of its last 4 vs. Lock Haven but lost 73-43 at LHU in 2009-10 ... Edinboro is 11-1 vs. ESU with 11 straight wins (ESU's only win was in 1980-81).
Edinboro
The eighth-ranked Fighting Scots matched the best start in school history by advancing to 10-0 with a pair of wins at the Northern Kentucky Classic. The 1972-73 also started 10-0 … Edinboro used a 19-point effort from senior forward Renee’ Brown to hold off Hillsdale, 66-56, on Dec. 29. Senior guard Raven Metz added 14 points while junior guard Kiara Brown poured in 12 points along with six assists … Edinboro defeated Ohio Dominican, 78-51, on Dec. 30. The Fighting Scots ended the game on a 21-0 run. Renee’ Brown and Raven Metz each finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds apiece to notch the first double-doubles of the season for Edinboro. Senior forward Samantha Blazetic swatted three blocks against Ohio Dominican and broke the Edinboro career blocks record with her 161st block in red and white … The Fighting Scots host Kutztown and East Stroudsburg on Jan. 6-7.
Gannon
The Gannon women's basketball team finished with a 1-1 record during a winter-break trip to San Juan, Puerto Rico … Despite a 64 percent shotting performance from UPR-Bayamon, Jennifer Papich and Caitlyn Lowe both turned in 20-point performances to lead Gannon to a 74-73 win … Lowe hit five of 11 long-range shots while Papich was 9-of-12 from the floor … The Lady Knights suffered a 57-54 loss to UPR-Rio Piedras after holding a three-point lead at the half. Gannon managed just 4-of-21 shooting during the second half after hitting 12-of-25 shots in the first half.
IUP
The Crimson Hawks debut at 24th in the latest USA Today/ESPN Division II Coaches Poll, their first appearance in the poll since November 4, 2009 … IUP heads into its final PSAC crossover weekend with a perfect 10-0 record, it’s best start since the 1999-2000 season, hosting West Chester on Friday and Millersville on Saturday … The Crimson Hawks won both of their games at the Seventh Annual Susan G. Komen “Shoot for the Cure” Classic on December 18-19 by a wide margin, defeating Seton Hill 57-31 on Sunday and Bowie State 82-39 on Monday … Fr. F Ashley Stoner averaged 14.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in just 39 total minutes of action in the victories.
Kutztown
Kutztown returned from a 20-day layoff to pound Lincoln 82-58 ... Ashley Wood scored 19 of her game-high 23 in the first half as the Golden Bears pulled away early ... Andrea Sisson hit 6-of-9 field goals and three threes for 15 points ... Advia Campbell came off the bench for career-highs with 12 points and eight boards ... The Golden Bears also turned in their best defensive effort since the 2008-09 season as they stifled Lincoln into just 15-of-68 shooting in the game, 22 percent.
Lock Haven
Lock Haven is excited for the 2012 and a fresh start … Lock Haven will look to snap a four game losing skid this weekend as the Lady Eagles host a pair of home games … After starting 4-1, LHU has lost four straight to fall to 4-5 overall and 3-3 in PSAC action ... A huge bright spot has been the play of senior guard Peaches Nesmith. The Philadelphia native is averaging 17.6 points per game, which is fourth-best in all of the PSAC. She also leads the team with 6.9 rebounds a game … Fellow senior Sharay Hall is knocking down 11.2 points per game and grabbing 6.0 boards to help The Haven women.
Mansfield
The Mountaineers picked-up their fourth win of the season Tuesday night in a 79-70 victory over Roberts Wesleyan after dropping a hard fought battle to LeMoyne last Friday ... Sophomore Jena Matter led three Mounties in double-figures Tuesday night scoring a career-high 22 points in the winning effort ... Senior Mallory Moore picked-up a double-double recording 20 points and 10 rebounds against the Raiders ... Moore combined to score 38 points in the week's two games to move into fourth all-time in program scoring history ... Mansfield has been a solid rebounding team this season, ranking first in the PSAC in scoring offense with four players averaging at least 5.5 rebounds per game.
Mercyhurst
The Lakers won their fifth game in six tries, defeating Notre Dame College, 80-70, at the MAC December 30...Hurst is now 4-0 at home this season ... Senior Nikki Frederickson scored a career-high 27 points, hitting 11-14 shots from the field ... Freshman Lindsay Stamp added 19 points and six boards in the victory ... The Lakers hit 31-52 (59.6%) shots from the floor, a season high ... Mercyhurst hosts Shippensburg and Cheyney in the final pair of crossover action January 6-7 ... Stamp leads all PSAC freshmen in scoring with 13.9 points per game.
Millersville
Millersville split its holiday weekend trip at the 26th Annual Carol Eckman Memorial Classic hosted by West Chester … The Marauders’ 12-game winning streak at the classic was broke in the opening game by University of the Sciences. Millersville responded in the second game to defeat Molloy to give head coach Mary Fleig her 400th win at Millersville—she now has 522 career coaching wins … The Marauders out-rebounded their opponents at the tournament by an 83-61 margin, including a 50-30 advantage against Molloy … Aurielle Mosley scored a season-high 21 points and collected 14 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season.
Shippensburg
Shippensburg dropped a heartbreaker last Friday in its final non-conference game of the season when West Virginia Wesleyan hit a three-pointer at the end of regulation en route to a six-point OT victory over the Raiders ... Junior Shawna Wert recorded her first career double-double with 15 points and a career-high 10 rebounds ... Sophomore Sarah Strybuc scored a season-high 14 points after making four three-pointers ... Junior Caitin Bamberger has posted double-digit points in seven of 10 games this season.
Slippery Rock
Slippery Rock is riding a two-game winning streak after recording a comeback overtime win at Notre Dame (Ohio) over the break ... The Rock welcomed D'Asia Chambers to the lineup in a big way as she went for 16 points and 11 rebounds off the bench, including scoring four points in the final minute of regulation to force OT.
West Chester
West Chester won its own Carol Eckman Memorial Classic over the break last week with a pair of convincing victories over Molloy and USP ... WCU won its two games by a combined 52 points ... WCU also received a vote in the national polls for the first time this season ... Jr. F Alexandra Lennon registered her first double-double of the year (13 pts, 10 rebs) and sixth overall in her career against Molloy ... Lennon also has 152 career blocked shots and stands second all-time at WCU ... Sr. G Allison Hostetter grabbed her 600th career rebound in the finals and with 975 career points is just 25 shy of becoming just the 16th player in WCU history to reach 1,000 ... With 25 more points and 18 more assists, Hostetter will become just the second player in WCU history to accomplish 1,000 points-600 rebounds-300 assists in a career … Head coach Deirdre Kane won her 400th career game at WCU on Saturday ... Ironically, it was the same day that Millersville head coach Mary Fleig won her 400th career game at Millersville.
