IUP TAKES MEN'S GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP LED BY ZACK KEMPA
Hershey, Pa. - Indiana (Pa.) men's golf defended its PSAC Championship title and earned its 25th in program history on Sunday at Hershey Links golf course, with a combined team score of 567 (-9).
The Crimson Hawks were led by the efforts of Zack Kempa, who shot four under par across both days of competition, earning a 71 (-1) on day one and a 69 (-3) on the second day for a combined score of 140.
California (Pa.) earned second place as a team with a combined total of 585, with Charlie Durman leading the way with a 141 final score, leaving him three under par.
There was a five way tie for third overall individual. Connor Lefever from West Chester, Robert Coyne of Millersville, Jordan Eck of Cal, Jack Owen from IUP, and Sean Sweithelm from IUP all recorded final scores of 142 for two under par.

CALIFORNIA (PA. ) WINS WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP, MEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP DAY 1 RECAP
Hershey, Pa. - California (Pa.) women's golf team successfully earned its fourth ever PSAC Championship title on Saturday, Oct. 20, with a combined team score of 618 (+50) across two days of competition. The PSAC Men's Golf Championship got underway with Indiana (Pa.) earning an early four stroke lead over the field in Hershey, Pa.
The Vulcans were led by Maria Lopez, who shot a 75 (+6) on her second day on the Hershey Country Club East Course. Lopez was crowned the individual champion of the tournament with a final score of 148, just eight strokes off par. Teammate Lorena Arana took second overall with a 152 combined score, leaving her 10 strokes off of a 141 par.
Gannon University took second place as a team and turned-in a team score of 641 (+73), 23 strokes behind Cal. Gannon's Bhanisha Nagindas earned third amongst the field of 39 golfers with a 13 above par finish (155). Golden Knight Amanda Teodorsson was just one stroke behind Nagindas, as she scored a 78 both days.
In the men's match on the Hershey Links course, IUP currently holds a team score of 285 (-3), with three golfers coming in under par. Jack Owen (70 -2), Zack Kempa (71 -1) and Sean Sweithelm (71 -1) are at the head of the Crimson Hawk pack.
The Vulcan's Jordan Eck sits atop the other PSAC golfers, as he executed a score of 69, leaving him three strokes under the 72 par. Robert Coyne is tied with IUP's Owen with a 70 for two under even.
California (Pa.) sits four strokes behind the Hawks in team scoring, as the Vulcans accumulated a 289 score during day one of the championship for one over par.
The men continue play tomorrow, October 21, with tee times beginning at 9:00 a.m. at hole one of the Hershey Links course.

WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP DAY 1 RECAP
Hershey, Pa. - The 2012 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championships got underway at the Hershey Country Club East Course on Friday, Oct. 19, with California (Pa.) taking the lead with a team score of 306, just 18 strokes above par.
The Vulcans' Maria Lopez currently sits atop the competition with a 73 score, just one stroke off of par. Teammate Lorena Aranda is two strokes behind leader Lopez with a score of 75 (+3).
Defending PSAC Champion Gannon University ranks second after day one hitting 19 strokes behind Cal with a combined team score of 325. The Golden Knights are led by Bhanisha Nagindas and Amanda Teodorrsson, last season's top two individuals in the championship. Nagindas brought-in a score of 77 (+5), as did Cal's Cara Vanderham, while Teodorsson is six strokes above par with a 78.
Kutztown is 43-over as a team with a 331 score for third place, while the Lakers of Mercyhurst have a score of 332. Rounding out the team competition, West Chester is 61-over as a team with a combined scored of 349, Clarion stands at 357(+69) for sixth and East Stroudsburg is in seventh with 397 (+109). The Millersville women's squad does not have enough participants to qualify for the team competition and is led individually by No. 24 Jamie Wharton.
The women play their final round of the PSAC Championships at the Hershey Country Club East Course on Saturday, Oct. 20, with tee times starting at 9:00 a.m.

CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW
Hershey, Pa. - The PSAC Golf Championships will take place at the Hershey Country Club this weekend. Eight women's teams will compete for the PSAC women's golf championship and seven men's teams will compete for the men's title. The women begin competition on Friday and finish Saturday, playing 18 holes each day, while the men will begin their competition on Saturday and wrap-up on Sunday, also playing 18 holes both days.
Throughout all three days of the championship, tee-times are scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m., with all golfers starting at the No. 1 hole. The women will compete on the East Course and the men will play the Hershey Links Course.
Gannon is the defending women's team champions, with last season's top two individuals, Amanda Teodorsson and Bhanisha Nagindas, returning for the Knights. Teodorsson was the top 2011 individual with a score of 153 (+11) and placed fourth overall in 2010. Nagindas shot a 16-over par across the two days of competition in 2011 to tie California's (Pa.) Maria Lopez, who returns to the course to lead the three-time PSAC Team Champions. Gannon finished the championship 16 strokes ahead of the Vulcans. Also competing for the women's team title in addition to Gannon and California will be Mercyhurst, West Chester, Clarion, East Stroudsburg and Millersville.
Indiana (Pa.) has taken the men's PSAC Championship crown for the past five consecutive years and will return three golfers to the course, including Zack Kempa and Derek Baker who tied for fifth during the 2011 championship with scores of nine-over par. Clarion was the 2011 runner-up, as the squad hit 12 strokes behind IUP. The Golden Eagles' top returner is Alex Angelone, who took fourth overall in 2011 with an eight-over par mark. Also competing for the men's team title in addition to IUP and Clarion is California, Millersville, Gannon, West Chester and Mercyhurst.
