Cal's Abigail Freund Earns Champion Scholar Award
Erie, Pa. - California's Abigail Freund earned the volleyball PSAC Champion Scholar award for having the highest grade point average among the student-athletes at the volleyball PSAC Championship site.
The PSAC Champion Scholar Award, begun during the 2011-12 academic year, is modeled after the NCAA's Elite 89 award and honors the student-athlete with the top grade point average that is competing at the site of each of the PSAC's 23 team championship finals. The selection criteria for the Champion Scholar Awards is identical to that of the NCAA Elite 89 awards, which honor the student-athlete with the top GPA at each of the championship final sites of the 89 NCAA championships across all three divisions - I, II and III.
Freund, a junior setter from Cottage Grove, Wis., holds a 3.922 grade point average with 67 credits hours completed and is a communication disorders major.
