Cal Falls to Wheeling Jesuit in Regional Finals Saturday, December 1, 2012 12:00 AM CAL FALLS TO WHEELING JESUIT IN REGIONAL FINALS Wheeling, W. Va. - California was unable to defeat Wheeling Jesuit and lost 3-1 in the NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Championship Atlantic Regional final in Wheeling, W. Va. on Saturday night. The Vulcans dropped the first two sets, and was able to capture a 25-19 third set victory before giving up a 25-16 fourth set. The 2012 NCAA postseason appearance was the eighth consecutive for Cal and its 12th in program history. The Vulcans have made it into the regional championship game in each of the last seven seasons and have claimed the title on three occasions (2007-09). Atlantic Regional Tournament Site CALIFORNIA TO PLAY IN NCAA REGIONAL FINALS Wheeling, W. Va. - California defeated PSAC Champion Gannon 3-1 in the NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Atlantic Regional Semifinals in order to advance to the regional finals. Clarion fell 3-2 against Wheeling Jesuit in the semifinal round. The Vulcans will play Wheeling Jesuit on Saturday, December 1, at 7:00 p.m to determine the Atlantic Regional Champion. Tomorrow night's victor will advance to face the South Regional champion on December 6, in the NCAA Division II Championship Quarterfinals. Va. California defeated Shippensburg 3-1 and will face Gannon on Friday, November 30, at 5:00 p.m. Gannon beat Mercyhurst also 3-1 to advance. Clarion defeated Lock Haven in three games and will play Wheeling Jesuit also on November 30, at 7:30 p.m. The winners of the regional semifinals will face one another in the regional finals to determine which squad will play the South Region winner on December 6, in the championship quarterfinals. No. 7 Mercyhurst and newly crowned PSAC champion No. 2 Gannon will square-off on Thursday, November 29 at Alma Grace McDonough Center in Wheeling, W. Va., with No. 1 Wheeling Jesuit playing host to the Atlantic Regionals. No. 3 California and No. 6 Shippensburg will battle in the opening round of competition and No. 5 Lock Haven will play No. 4 Clarion also on November 29 in Wheeling, W. Va. The tournament is made up of eight eight-team regional tournaments; Atlantic, Central, East, Midwest, South, South Central, Southeast and West.
