PSAC East Athlete of the Week
 
Dana Wieller,Bloomsburg

Dana Wieller moved into sole possession of third place in PSAC history in three-pointers with 278, as she made seven treys this past week. Wieller scored a team-high 16 points against Wilmington Del. to eclipse the 1,500-point mark in her collegiate career. Against Wilmington, she was 4-for-7 from beyond the arc and had a pair of steals. Versus Slippery Rock, Wieller scored a game-high 20 points to lead 25th-ranked Bloomsburg to an 84-46 win. She made all four of her free throws, dished out four assists and grabbed three steals. Against Edinboro, she extended her streak of scoring in double figures to 22 straight games with 14 points in the Huskies' win over 15th-ranked Edinboro.
 
 
PSAC East Freshman of the Week
 
Stephanie Knauer, Shippensburg

Stephanie Knauer recorded two double-doubles in a pair of PSAC road wins over Clarion and Lock Haven. Against Clarion, Knauer had 12 points and a career-high 14 rebounds. At Lock Haven, Knauer delivered 20 points, her second 20-point effort of her freshman season, coupled with 13 rebounds. She shot 6-of-11 from the floor and 8-of-9 from the free-throw line versus Lock Haven. Through seven games as a rookie, Knauer has five double-digit scoring efforts and three double-doubles. She is averaging 12.3 points and 9.1 rebounds per game while shooting 51.1%. SU is out to a 6-1 start, its best since the 2008-09 season.
 

PSAC West Athlete of the Week
 
Jen Papich, Gannon

Jen Papich led Gannon to a PSAC crossover sweep with victories against East Stroudsburg, 78-68, and a 66-59 win over Kutztown. Papich averaged 20.5 points across both contests, shooting at a 50 percent clip from the field (14-of-28) and an impressive 92.3 percent from the free throw line (12-of-13). The junior forward began the weekend with 17 points, six rebounds, four blocks, three assists and two steals against Kutztown. Gannon trailed Kutztown by three points with 15:33 remaining on the game clock, before Papich scored 13 points during the final 14:30. Papich ended the week with 24 points, five rebounds, and a pair of blocks against East Stroudsburg. She went 7-of-8 from the charity stripe against the Warriors. Papich has reached double digits in scoring for four straight games and has scored at least 24 points during two of the last three contests.
 
 
PSAC West Freshman of the Week

Aignee Freeland helped her team go 1-1 over the weekend in PSAC crossover action. She scored nine points and added nine rebounds in a 91-61 win at Mansfield, while shooting 4-of-6 from the field. She went 2-of-3 from the floor for five points and three rebounds at Bloomsburg. Over the weekend, Freeland averaged seven points, six rebounds, an assist and a steal. She also went 6-of-9 from the field shooting 66.7 percent.

Team Notes

Bloomsburg
The 25th-ranked Huskies (5-0, 2-0) continued its impressive start to the season with three, sizeable victories last week. The highlight of the week was a 25-point, 84-59 win over 15th-ranked Edinboro. Bloomsburg is averaging 84.4 points per game through five games while allowing just 57. Opponents are shooting just 31.4 percent against the Bloomsburg defense. BU is also assisting on 69.18 percent of its total field goals with 146 total this season. Sr. Dana Wieller is the team’s leading scorer at 15.8 points per game, followed by Lauren Ellis at 12.2 and Kayla Oxenrider at 11. Ellis is BU’s leading rebounder at 7.4 per game as BU’s 60 rebounds against Slippery Rock were the most since 2006. Wieller has a team-best 13 steals and is second on the team at 4.6 boards per game.

California
The Vulcans opened PSAC Crossover play with a pair of road victories. Cal U has started the year with five-straight victories for the first time since the 2003-04 season. The Vulcans have won all five games by double-digits this season, winning by an average 23.4 points. Junior Ashley Hines ranks second in the PSAC in scoring at 16.8 points per game and leads the league with 10.8 rebounds per game while playing all five games off the bench. Senior Stephanie Michael ranks second on the team and fifth in the league with 15.0 points per game after entering the year with a career average of 5.9 points per game. Junior Kate Seebohm averaged 6.0 assists and 5.5 steals per game last weekend. She now leads the PSAC in assists and ranks third in steals after playing as a reserve last season

Cheyney
The Lady Wolves are still looking for their first win of the season. Cheyney stands at 0-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play. Cristina Jordan has been pacing the Lady Wolves. She is averaging 8 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. Cheyney has struggled shooting the ball. The Lady Wolves have only made 29% of their attempts. Cheyney has also struggled to take care of the ball. Through three games, Cheyney has turned the ball over 108 times.

Clarion
So. F Hannah Heeter had a four-day stretch she won't soon forget this week. Heeter, also a member of Clarion's NCAA D-II qualifying volleyball team, played in the D-II VB To. Thursday and Friday in Wheeling, W. Va. helping Clarion split a pair of matches in the Atlantic Region while recording double digits in kills both days. Clarion was eliminated by Wheeling Jesuit at 9:30 p.m. Friday night and didn't return to Clarion until 2 a.m. Saturday morning. Despite this and despite having not picked up a basketball since the summer and not having one practice under her belt, Heeter played Saturday scoring 17 points to go with 9 rebounds in a loss to Shippensburg and then recorded her 14th career double-double Sunday with 10 points and 14 rebounds in a loss to Millersville. Fr. G Mariah Gador tied her season high with 12 rebounds vs. Millersville while Fr. G Tania Holmes had a career-best 8 rebounds vs. Millersville

East Stroudsburg
ESU fell to 1-4 overall (0-2 PSAC) with a pair of road losses on the opening weekend, 63-49 at Mercyhurst and 78-68 at #11 Gannon. The Warriors faced their second top 25 opponent of the season at Gannon, as they fell 53-47 at #12 Holy Family in their season opener. So. F Jessica Martin, last year's PSAC East Freshman of the Year, had 2 straight double-doubles entering the week. She had 8 points and 12 rebounds at Mercyhurst, and 12 points and 5 rebounds at Gannon. Martin leads ESU with 12.8 ppg and is 2nd in PSAC with 9.8 rpg. Sr. F Fayola Moise is 2nd on team in both categories (10.6 ppg, 5.6 rpg). So. G Ryann Fiascki had 14 points, 2 off her career-high, at Mercyhurst. Sr. G Barb Borst scored 16, her most in two seasons, at Gannon.

Edinboro
Edinboro (3-2, 1-1 PSAC) opened conference play by splitting the first crossover weekend of the season with a 91-61 win at Mansfield before falling, 84-59 at No. 25 Bloomsburg. Senior center Samantha Blazetic scored a career-high 27 points and added 10 rebounds, two blocks and two steals in win at Mansfield while junior guard Darche’ Jackson tallied 18 points and seven assists. Senior guard Kerry Connolly had 11 points and matched a career-high four steals in Mansfield win.  Senior guard Kiara Brown netted game-high 23 points at Bloomsburg. The Fighting Scots return to action on Tuesday for a non-conference tilt at home against Davis & Elkins.

Gannon
Gannon opened PSAC play with a weekend sweep of Kutztown (66-59) and East Stroudsburg (78-68). The Lady Knights have won nine straight regular-season home games dating back to last season. Gannon has won all 10 games against PSAC Eastern Division opponents the last two seasons. Gannon overcame a three-point deficit against Kutztown by out-scoring the Golden Bears 35-25 during the final 15:18. Junior Jen Papich netted 13 points during the final 14:30 after being held to three points prior to that time frame. Papich has reached double digits in four consecutive games after failing to do so in the first three, including scoring at least 24 points during two of the last three contests. Gannon had 55 rebounds against Kutztown, the program’s most since getting 55 at Clarion on January 16, 2010. Ten different Lady Knights grabbed rebounds which included 22 offensive rebounds.

IUP
The 19th-ranked Crimson Hawks moved to 6-0 on the season as they swept their three-game week with wins over Ursuline, Cheyney and West Chester. IUP’s margin of victory this week was an impressive +40, scoring a season-high 94 points against West Chester and allowing just 24 points to Ursuline. Four different players averaged double-figures in scoring, including Jr. G Talen Watson who scored a career-high 21 points against West Chester. She averaged 13.7 points per game for the week while So. G Lindsay Stamp and Sr. F Sarah Pastorek averaged 12.3 and So. F Ashley Stoner scored 11.0. Stamp and Stoner each had their first double-doubles of the season against Cheyney and West Chester, respectively. IUP gears up for a huge showdown this coming weekend against No. 11 Gannon in Erie this Saturday.

Kutztown
Kutztown won one of three games last week, including a split on the opening weekend of PSAC action. Ashley Wood led the team in scoring in two of the three contest, shooting 50 percent from the floor and 54 percent from behind the arc. Her 23 points at Mercyhurst were the most for a Golden Bear this year. Natalya Lee led the team against Gannon with 20 points. Alyssa Bonenberger had her first career double-double in the win at Mercyhurst with 10 points and 10 rebounds. She also had 10 rebounds at Gannon and averaged 9.3 boards for the week. She also reached 10 points twice on the week. KU hit 17-of-20 free throws in the win at Mercyhurst. Advia Campbell came off the bench for 13 points against the Lakers and shot 7-of-11 for the week (63 percent). Aly York scored career-high 10 points at Gannon and added four steals. Avery Hodgson netted 10 points at Lincoln.

Lock Haven
The Lock Haven University women’s basketball team went 1-2 last week and are now 2-3 on the season. The Haven downed Notre Dame College on Wednesday, 93-57. LHU dropped two PSAC crossover games to Millersville and Shippensburg over the weekend. The Lady Eagles are led by Kelsey Ryan and Marrysa Moyer. Ryan is averaging 13.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game and Moyer is averaging 12.8 points and 8.7 rebounds thus far. The Haven returns to action Saturday (December 8) when they travel to Mercyhurst for their first PSAC West contest of the season.

Mansfield
The Mountaineers posted a 2-1 week after picking up wins over Slippery Rock and Houghton and dropping a game to No. 15 Edinboro. Interim head coach Alison Tagliaferri earned the first win of her Mansfield career with the 79-52 win over Houghton in the Mounties home opener. In that game, Julia Stevenson led five Mountaineers in double-figure scoring with her 23 points on the night. Sharpshooter Kayla Espigh hit four 3-pointers to total 12 points, while Victoria Lacey added 11 points. Mansfield notched its first PSAC win of the season by downing Slippery Rock 78-65 Sunday at Decker. Freshman Katie Fitzpatrick scored a game-high 24 points while Espigh again knocked down four treys on her way to a double-double with 20 points and 10 boards. The Mounties played No.15 Edinboro tough in the first half on Saturday, but the Fighting Scots prevailed 91-61. Espigh led Mansfield with 13 points while Julia Stevenson added 11.

Mercyhurst
Mercyhurst split two PSAC crossovers this past weekend. It defeated East Stroudsburg, 63-49, and lost to Kutztown, 70-60, at the MAC. The Lakers had a balanced attack as five different players scored at least 10 points in one of the two outings. Freshman Adrienne Kloecker hit four threes on her way to 13 points against Kutztown. In the win over ESU, Mercyhurst held the Warriors to 30.6 percent field goal shooting, including 1-10 three-point accuracy. The Lakers host Lock Haven in the PSAC West opener December 8.

Millersville
Millersville had a 3-0 week last week to start the season 4-0 overall for the fifth time in the last six years, on the strength of Gallagher's 16.3 points per game. The Marauders' 22.0 point per game margin of victory is the fourth-highest in the PSAC, and second in the PSAC East to just Bloomsburg, which the team plays this Saturday.

Shippensburg
Shippensburg earned an 82-65 road win at Clarion and an 87-82 road win at Lock Haven to run its record to 6-1, 2-0 PSAC...it is the first time that the Raiders have beaten PSAC opponents in back-to-back games and scored 80+ points in both of the wins since the 2001 PSAC Tournament. SU is 6-1 to start a season for the first time since 2008-09. Freshman forward Stephanie Knauer had a pair of double-doubles this weekend (12/14 at Clarion, 20/13 at Lock Haven) and is averaging 12.3 points and 9.1 rebounds per game while shooting 51.1%. Senior Shawna Wert is averaging 14.1 PPG and has a team-high 14 steals...SU's defense is forcing an average of 22 turnovers per game out of its opponents.

Slippery Rock
Slippery Rock dropped road games at No. 25 Bloomsburg and Mansfield last weekend to open PSAC play. The Rock is currently 1-4 overall and 0-2 in PSAC play and is riding a four game losing streak. The team averages 66.4 ppg and allows 80.2 ppg. D'Asia Chambers leads the team at 13.6 ppg, while Alexas Brown adds 12.0 ppg.

West Chester
West Chester opened PSAC play dropping a pair of contests against two of the top teams in the Western Division. The Golden Rams were swept by California (Pa.) and Indiana (Pa.). Brittany Sicinski scored a team-high 18 points in the loss to IUP. It marked a career-best for the freshman and the second time she reached double figures. WCU played without freshman guard Dallas Ely, who suffered a concussion in practice. She is expected to return to the starting lineup against Mansfield this weekend. Sicinski is now averaging 9.6 points per game as she continues to improve.
