Lock Haven, Pa. - Bloomsburg's Dana Wieller and West Chester's Alex Lennon share the final PSAC East Athlete of the Week honors of the 2011-12 season after their outstanding performances helped their respective teams finish 1-2 in the East standings. Mercyhurst's Nikki Frederickson earns her third PSAC West Athlete of the Week honor after two solid games to end her career.

East Stroudsburg's Jessica Martin earns her eighth East Freshman of the Week honor of the season after wrapping up one of the most impressive rookie campaigns in ESU history, while Clarion's Hannah Heeter earns her seventh Freshman Athlete of the week honor after averaging yet another double-double for the week to cap her season.


PSAC East Co-Athlete of the Week
Dana Wieller, Bloomsburg
Junior, Guard
Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty


Wieller earns her third East Athlete of the Week honor in the last five weeks as she finished the regular season strong by helping the Huskies clinch their second straight PSAC East title with a pair of wins. She averaged 21.5 points, 2.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game in wins over East Stroudsburg and Millersville as Bloomsburg will head into the postseason on a 10-game winning streak. Wieller shot 46.8 percent from the field (15-of-32), including 7-of-15 from three-point range (46.6 percent) and also made 6-of-7 free throws. In Wednesday's 78-63 win over East Stroudsburg, Wieller scored a game-high 28 points. She then closed out the regular season with 15 against Millersville.


PSAC East Co-Athlete of the Week
Alexandra Lennon, West Chester
Junior, Center
Lansdowne, Pa./The Shipley School

Lennon averaged 22.5 points and 9.0 rebounds while shooting 63 percent (19-of-30) from the field to help West Chester go undefeated last week. She connected on  7-of-11 free throws, added 3.0 blocks per contest, dished out three total assists and had four total steals. Lennon scored 21 points in only 23 minutes of action on Wednesday as the Rams defeated Cheyney 80-58. She continued her strong work ethic on the road with 24 points in 27 minutes resulting in a 79-71 victory over Mansfield. Lennon has scored 20+ points in five of her last six games to take over the leading scorer spot on her team.


PSAC East Freshman of the Week
Jessica Martin, East stroudsburg
Freshman, Forward
Brownstown, Pa./Conestoga Valley

Martin earns the East Freshman of the Week accolade for the fourth straight week after averaging 13.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.5 blocks as East Stroudsburg went 1-1 to wrap up its season. In the Warriors' 78-63 loss to Bloomsburg last Wednesday, Martin led the way with 14 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two blocks. She then recorded 12 points, five rebounds, two steals and five blocks in a win over Cheyney on Saturday. Martin set the PSAC record for most blocks by a freshman (76) and added to her East Stroudsburg record for rebounds by a freshman, which she just broke last week, ending the year with 195 total rebounds.


PSAC West Athlete of the Week
Nikki Frederickson, Mercyhurst
Senior, Forward
Jamestown, N.Y./Jamestown

Frederickson led the Lakers in scoring as she averaged 22.5 points per game in Mercyhurst's 1-1 week. She also contributed 7.0 rebounds and shot 59 percent from the floor (16-of-27) and 68 percent from the free throw line (13-of-19). In a 59-58 upset win over second-ranked and previously undefeated Edinboro, she scored a game-high 25 points on Wednesday. Frederickson then scored 20 points in a one-point loss at Lock Haven on Saturday.


PSAC West Freshman of the Week
Hannah Heeter, Clarion
Freshman, Forward
Seneca, Pa./Cranberry

Heeter earns her seventh Freshman of the Week honor and her eighth straight weekly award (including being Athlete of the Week last week) after averaging 17.0 points and 13.0 rebounds in Clarion's last two games. She shot 17-of-26 from the field (65.4 percent). She started off her week by scoring 14 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in a close 71-63 loss to Slippery Rock last Wednesday. She then scored 21 points and pulled down 15 boards in a loss to California on Saturday. Heeter broke Heather Cigich's school record for most 15-rebound games in a season with her eighth 15-rebound game. Heeter finished the season by notching 13 double-doubles in her last 16 games.





Team Notes

Bloomsburg

The Huskies won the PSAC East title for the second straight year and 14th time in school history ... Bloomsburg is making its third straight PSAC playoff appearance ... The Huskies ended the regular season on a 10-game winning streak ... The team's 24 wins are the most since Bloomsburg won 24 games in the 2000-01 season ... Bloomsburg scored the first 17 points of the game in its win over Millersville ... Bloomsburg honored its lone senior, Kelsey Gallagher, before its game with Millersville.

California
The Vulcans will be making their 12th-consecutive appearance in the PSAC Tournament after earning the fourth seed from the PSAC West … Cal U has advanced to the PSAC Championships in each of the last 11 seasons with its last league title coming in 2006 … The Vulcans open play in the tournament against top-seeded Edinboro, who posted a 75-58 over Cal U in last year’s PSAC Championship Game …. Cal U holds a 2-1 all-time record against Edinboro in the PSAC Tournament, highlighted by a 63-59 victory in the 2006 PSAC Championship Game … The Vulcans scored a season-high 93 points on Wednesday in a victory over Clarion.

Cheyney
Tamara Russell recorded season and career highs in points and rebounds at West Chester … The sophomore guard from Lanham, Md. netted 15 points while grabbing 10 rebounds for her first career double-double.

Clarion
Freshman Hannah Heeter added two more double-doubles during the week giving her 13 on the season, tying Heather Cigich for the most by a Clarion rookie in at least 20 years ... Recorded her eighth 15-rebound game Saturday vs. Slippery Rock setting the school record for 15-rebound games in a season ... Her 284 rebounds are the most ever by a Clarion freshman and 322 points are 5th most ... Avg. 16.8 ppg, 14.3 rpg and shot 62.3% in 14 games vs. PSAC West opponents ... Her 59.3% FG shooting is 3rd most in school history and ranks 2nd in D-II, 1st in PSAC. 11.8 rpg 1st in PSAC, 8th in D-II … So. PG Raven Jones finished with 139 assists, the fifth-most in a season in school history and has ninth-most assists in school history with 248 … Emma Fickel’s 154 career three’s puts the sophomore in sixth place in school history.

East Stroudsburg
Two Warriors set PSAC freshman records in Saturday's 71-55 win over Cheyney ... F Jessica Martin had 5 blocks to finish with 76 for the season, breaking the freshman record of 72 set by Ashley Totedo (Shippensburg) in 1995-96 ... G Ryann Fiascki was 7-8 at the line to set ESU's school record and PSAC's freshman record for free throw pct. at 87.4 (83-95) ... Previous record was 85.8 by Jen German (Bloomsburg) in 1993-94 ... ESU record was 87.3 (55-63) set by Lorraine Boyd in 1958-59 ... Martin, PSAC's top shot blocker with 2.9/game, also set ESU freshman record with 195 rebounds and ranks 8th in points (253) ... Martin and Jr. F Fayola Moise both averaged 7.5 rebounds/game ... Sr. G Cyara Woodridge led ESU in ppg for second straight season (10.4) and had 599 career points ... ESU finished 11-15 (8-14 PSAC), including wins over tournament teams Millersville and West Chester.

Edinboro
Second-ranked Edinboro (25-1, 21-1 PSAC) suffered its first defeat of the season, 59-58 in overtime at Mercyhurst on Wednesday. The Fighting Scots had their 33-game regular season winning streak snapped with the loss, their first PSAC setback in over one calendar year. The game was also the first time all season in which Edinboro failed to score at least 60 points … Renee’ Brown led the Scots with 16 points … Kiara Brown (21 points) was one of four Scots to score in double-figures as Edinboro bounced back to defeat California (Pa.), 85-67 on Saturday … Edinboro clinched the top seed in the PSAC West and will host fourth-seeded Cal in a rematch of last year’s conference championship in the PSAC quarterfinals on Tuesday.

Gannon
Gannon closed out the regular season with a 1-1 road record … The Lady Knights defeated Slippery Rock 75-59 on Wednesday, before falling to Indiana (Pa.) 69-64 on Saturday … Nettie Blake led the team in scoring and rebounding by averaging 14 points and nine rebounds … Gannon now rolls into the postseason, taking on the team they just faced Saturday, IUP … The Crimson Hawks earned the regular season split after earning the win on Saturday … Gannon previously defeated IUP 71-40 at the Hammermill Center … Gannon holds an 11-1 record at home this season and outscored opponents 907-641 during the regular season … Gannon shot 46.1 percent while limiting opponents to 36.6 percent.

IUP
The 24th-ranked Crimson Hawks finished off the season on a three-game winning streak with the help of a pair of victories this week, first over Lock Haven on Wednesday before a thrilling win over No. 18 Gannon on Senior Night on Saturday … After just a four-point lead at the half over the Bald Eagles, IUP used a late 11-1 run en route to a 63-49 win … Jr. F Sarah Pastorek notched her sixth double-double of the year with 12 points and 10 boards … IUP wrapped up the regular season with a 69-64 victory over the top-25 Golden Knights, and seven different players scored at least eight points … Pastorek scored a game-high 16 points while Sr. F Vianca Tejada had a career-high 10 rebounds … Already a third-seed in the PSAC West, IUP will have its rubber match at second-seeded Gannon on Tuesday in the PSAC quarterfinals, as the schools split the regular season series.

Kutztown
The Golden Bears finished the regular season 8-20 overall and 6-16 in the PSAC … The Golden Bears overcame a 26-22 halftime deficit to slide by the Red Raiders … In their last meeting, the Red Raiders defeated KU 73-57 at Keystone Arena … Kutztown's second half was sparked by a shooting spree where it shot 60 percent from the field … Campbell was 7-for-12 from the field and also added a block and steal in Saturday's win. Campbell has shown strong progression coming off the bench during the year and has developed into one of KU's promising players … A much improved shooting half for KU allowed two other Golden Bears to finish in double figures in scoring … Following Campbell's 17 points were sophomores Avery Hodgson, with 12 and Alyssa Bonenberger with 10 … KU's youthful squad has hopes of promise and will look to return 14 players for the 2012-13 season.

Lock Haven
Lock Haven split its final two games of the regular season last week … The Lady Eagles fell to No. 21 IUP on Wednesday and defeated Mercyhurst on Saturday to bring their final 2011-12 record to 9-16 overall and 8-14 in the PSAC … Peaches Nesmith and Sharay Hall led the Lady Eagles in scoring for the year 13.2 and 12.5 points per game, respectively … Freshman Lysa Mealing, who only played in the second half of the season, averaged 8.1 points and 6.9 rebounds and was a major bright spot for LHU.

Mansfield
The Mountaineers closed out the 2011-12 season with a 10-16 record … It was the programs most wins since positing a 13-14 mark in 2007 … The Mountaineers 62-59 win over Kutztown marked the first time since 1994 Mansfield has sweep the season series between the two programs … Mallory Moore closed out her stellar career with double-doubles against Kutztown and West Chester … Moore became the first Mountaineers to lead the conference in scoring during the regular season after scoring 23 points against West Chester in her collegiate finale averaging 18.8 points per game … Moore ended her career as the second leading scorer in school history with 1,547 points.

Mercyhurst
The Lakers beat #2 Edinboro, 59-58 in overtime, on February 22, ending the Lady Scots' hopes for an unbeaten season ... Nikki Frederickson scored 25 points, Abby Allen made a go-ahead three-pointer with 11 seconds left in regulation, and Megan Hoffman made a free throw to put ‘Hurst up with 13 seconds to go in OT...to close the season, the Lakers lost, 69-68, at Lock Haven ... Frederickson led again with 20 points, while Hoffman had 16 ... ‘Hurst finished the season with a 12-14 overall mark and a 10-12 conference record.

Millersville
Millersville closed out the regular season with two consecutive loses for the first time this season … The Marauders lost for the first time at Shippensburg for the first time in four years by a score of 60-54 … Millersville traveled to Bloomsburg for the last game of the regular season where it fell by a score of 73-60 … The Huskies have now topped the Marauders four-straight times after losing eight-straight to Millersville before last season … Millersville has clinched a berth to the PSAC tournament for the 16-straight season, 18th in the last 22 seasons under Mary Fleig … For the third-straight year the Marauders will open the conference tournament with West Chester … The Marauders and Rams split the season series this year with Millersville winning at West Chester in the last meeting.

Shippensburg
Shippensburg is the No. 4 seed in the PSAC Eastern Division and will make its first PSAC tournament appearance since the 2007-08 season when it travels Tuesday to face East No. 1 Bloomsburg ... SU is the only team in the PSAC with four players averaging 11+ points per game...junior Shawna Wert ranks second in the PSAC with 148 made free throws and needs just 23 points to reach the 1,000-point mark for her career ... Senior Monae Baker continues to be a Top 10 scorer and rebounder in the league ... Sophomore Sarah Strybuc has scored at least six points in every game that she has played this season (23) — and has posted double figures in 9 of her last 11 games.

Slippery Rock
Slippery Rock snapped an 11 game losing streak to close the year with a 71-63 win over Clarion … The Rock finishes the year at 6-20 overall and 3-19 in PSAC play … Danielle Smith led the team per game averages of 12.7 points and 7.5 rebounds and closed her career with a 14-point, 15-rebound double-double against Clarion.

West Chester
West Chester defeated Cheyney and Mansfield to end the season on a four-game win streak ... The Golden Rams have won five of their last six to close out the year ... Lennon and Ortman each scored over 20 points against Mansfield, marking the third time this season that two players scored more than 20 points in the same game this season [Lennon-Hostetter at LHU; at Cal] … WCU won 20 games for the second straight season … WCU will compete in the PSAC Tournament for the sixth straight year and 16 of the last 17 seasons … WCU has been to the PSAC Tournament at total of 21 times … WCU and Millersville will meet in the first round of the postseason tournament for the third consecutive season.
