California Wins Sixth Straight PSAC Women's Tennis Championship
Women's Tournament Boxes
Bloomsburg, Pa. - In a rematch of last year's championship match, the score was slightly different but the result was the same as California topped IUP 6-1 to win its sixth straight PSAC women's tennis championship.
After dropping just six total games to the Crimson Hawks in last year's 5-0 championship match win, the individual matches were slightly closer this time around, as IUP won at No. 2 doubles to trail 2-1 heading into singles. The Vulcans then proceeded to win four singles matches in straight sets, dropping just 16 combined games in the four finished singles matches, with two matches ending at the exact same time to clinch the match.
The Vulcans' title is the eighth in program history, moving them to within just two of tying Bloomsburg's all-time mark of 10 championships.
Earlier in the day, the Vulcans cruised to a 5-0 win over Kutztown in the semifinals, dropping just two combined games in the three doubles and two singles matches that were finished. IUP topped Bloomsburg 5-0 in the other semifinal. The consolation match between Kutztown and Bloomsburg is scheduled for Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m.
