Lock Haven, Pa. - The PSAC is pleased to announce the 21 winning teams of the inaugural PSAC Top Team GPA Awards. In their first year of existence and being awarded for the first time today, the Top Team GPA Awards honor the teams with the top cumulative team grade point average in each of the PSAC's 23 sponsored sports - with indoor and outdoor track & field being counted as a single sport in these awards.
The Top Team GPA Awards are given out just once per year, in June, at the conclusion of each academic year. All team GPAs that are listed are as of the conclusion of the spring semester.
Gannon led the way with seven of its teams being recognized as having the top team GPAs of all teams in the PSAC in their respective sports. The Golden Knights' women's basketball, men's cross country, women's cross country, men's golf, men's soccer, women's soccer and softball squads all compiled the highest GPA among all PSAC teams in those sports. Slippery Rock was next with five teams earning recognition, including its field hockey, football, women's lacrosse and men's and women's track & field teams.
The Golden Knights also had the team with the highest GPA in the PSAC - its women's cross country team with a 3.668 GPA. The Mercyhurst women's golf team at 3.631 was second while the Gannon men's cross country team just edged out the IUP women's tennis team for third place by just .001 - 3.608 to 3.607. Those four teams made up half of the eight winning teams to have a cumulative team GPA of at least 3.50. Other teams with at least a 3.50 GPA included the Gannon women's basketball team, the Slippery Rock field hockey team, the Gannon women's soccer team and the California volleyball team.
