West Chester and IUP Top PSAC Men’s Basketball Preseason Polls

PSAC Preseason Information Packet

Lock Haven, Pa.  – Defending PSAC Men’s Basketball Champion IUP was picked to win the Western Division, while West Chester was selected to win the Eastern Division, according to a preseason poll conducted by the league’s head coaches.
 
IUP led the West with seven first-place nods, while Gannon earned the second slot with one first-place vote. Slippery Rock was the final team to get a first-place vote and is ranked third. IUP’s Mathis Keita and Marcel Souberbielle both clinched preseason All-PSAC honors along with Gannon’s Adam Blazek. Slippery Rock is represented by preseason All-PSAC honoree Tabari Perry.
 
Just one point in the voting separated No. 4 California and No. 5 Pitt-Johnstown. Mercyhurst came in sixth, while PSAC newcomer Seton Hill was slated seventh. Rounding out the West was No. 8 Edinboro and No. 9 Clarion. Edinboro’s Bryan Theriot and Clarion’s Mike Kromka each earned preseason All-PSAC honors.
 
In the Eastern Division, West Chester claimed five first-place votes, while 2012 PSAC Champion East Stroudsburg earned the second spot backed by three first-place nods. East Stroudsburg has been picked either first or second each year since 2011, while West Chester is making its first appearance on top of the preseason poll since 2007.
 
Headlining West Chester’s program is Cory Blake, a preseason All-PSAC selection, while Whis Grant represents East Stroudsburg as a preseason All-Conference honoree.
 
No. 5 Mansfield, who claimed the final first-place vote, follows No. 3 Millersville and No. 4 Bloomsburg. East newcomer Lock Haven was picked sixth, while Cheyney was given the seventh slot. Rounding out the poll is No. 8 Kutztown and No. 9 Shippensburg.
 
Bloomsburg’s Dontahe Jordan and Mansfield’s 2012-13 All-PSAC First Team selection Joe Bell were named preseason All-PSAC selections. Dylan Edgar of Shippensburg was named a preseason All-PSAC honoree, while Lock Haven’s Wali Hepburn was also given the honors after clinching All-PSAC Second Team honors in the Western Division a year ago.
