Women's Basketball: East Athlete of the Week
Catherine Noack 
Bloomsburg (Sr. / G)
Bethlehem, Pa. / Liberty


Noack helped Bloomsburg to a 2-0 start to the 2013-14 campaign with 40 points in both wins. She scored 15 points with three assists in a season-opening win at Chestnut Hill. Noack tallied a career-high 25 points while also handing out five assists in a 105-69 victory at Wilmington (Del.). She averaged 20 points per outing, while shooting 63.6 percent from the floor, dishing out 4.0 assists per game and committing just one turnover. With eight from beyond the arc, Noack moves to fifth all-time in Bloomsburg history with 161 career 3-pointers.
Women's Basketball: East Freshman of the Week
Lauren Gold
Shippensburg (Fr. / G)
Elkins Park, Pa. / Abington Friends


Shippensburg's Lauren Gold was integral to the Raiders' 2-1 week, as she handed out 18 assists and made 23-of-25 at the free-throw line. In 19 minutes off the bench versus Shepherd, Gold scored 10 points and added three assists and two steals. In 27 minutes off the bench against Goldey-Beacom, Gold scored eight points and added four assists and one steal. In her first start, playing 33 minutes vs. NYIT, Gold scored 17 points while going 9-of-9 at the free-throw line, while dishing-out 11 assists for a double-double. Her 11 helpers were the most assists by an Shippensburg player in one game since Feb. 24, 2010. She also had six rebounds and a steal against NYIT and was named to the 2013 Wolf's Bus Lines Classic All-Tournament Team.

Paige Alviani
Seton Hill (Sr. / G)

Alviani has led the Griffins to a 3-0 start to the 2013-14 campaign. She notched 25 points in a 90-76 win over WV Tech and in a 72-62 win against Shepherd. Against Tech, she scored eight points down the stretch to break a 73-73 tie and give the Griffins the win. In a 72-56 win against University of Sciences, Alviani charted 18 points, while going a perfect 9-of-9 from the charity stripe. On the week, she averaged 22.7 points and 6.0 rebounds per game, and accumulated eight assists, two blocks, five steals with just three turnovers.

Kelly Johnson
Clarion (Fr. / G)
Pittsburgh, Pa. / Mt. Lebanon


Clarion's Kelly Johnson nearly recorded a triple-double in a 104-88 win over Mountain East preseason favorite West Liberty coming just an assist shy with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists, while tacking on five steals. She helped Clarion reach 100 points in a game for the first time since 2004. In her first collegiate game, Johnson charted 10 points, four rebounds, five steals and an assist against Charleston.

TEAM NOTES

Bloomsburg
The 2012-13 PSAC Champions started the new season with two blowout victories, winning by a 97-57 margin at Chestnut Hill on Nov. 9 before a 105-69 triumph at Wilmington (DE) on Nov. 16. Head coach Bill Cleary tallied his 100th victory at BU in the season-opener and now owns a 101-45 record with the Huskies. Against Chestnut Hill, five players scored in double figures led by junior guard Jocelyn Ford who narrowly missed a triple-double with 11 points, nine rebounds and nine assists. Senior guard Catherine Noack led the charge at Wilmington, netting a career-best 25 points while junior forward Nikki Tamanosky also had a career day, finishing with 20 points and eight rebounds. The Huskies open the PSAC East schedule by hosting Millersville on Wednesday evening in a match-up between the top two teams from the preseason coaches' poll.

California
The Vulcans have opened the year with three-straight losses for the first time in over a decade … The first three opponents for Cal U this season each recorded at least 21 wins last season and combined for a .710 winning percentage … Junior Emma Mahady has scored a career-high 23 points in back-to-back games after finishing with just two points in the season-opener on Nov. 9 … Senior guard Ryah Gadson is averaging 11.0 points this season and has started all three games after not starting a game last season … Senior forward Ashley Hines recorded a double-double against Millersville on Nov. 9 and leads the team with 8.3 rebounds despite coming off the bench … The Vulcans are averaging only 9.0 assists per game this year with no player totaling more than four assists through three games.
 
Cheyney
Cheyney lost its home opener 72-58 against Virginia State University on Nov. 16.

Clarion
Clarion scored 104 points in a 104-88 win over Mountain East Conference preseason favorite West Liberty Saturday, the first time it have been over 100 points since Nov. 2004 and the most points it has scored since putting up 105 in Feb. 1999. Clarion’s men’s team also scored 100 Saturday marking just the third time in school history the men’s and women’s teams scored 100 on the same day and the first time since Nov. 1991.  Redshirt freshman guard Kelly Johnson narrowly missed a triple-double Saturday with 17 points, 11 rebounds, 9 assists. Clarion hasn’t had a triple-double since Ashley Grimm had 10 points, 10 steals and 12 assists Jan. 5, 2008.  Sr. guard Emma Fickel set a career high Saturday with 27 points.  Wednesday’s PSAC West opener at Slippery Rock will be the earliest Clarion has faced a PSAC West opponent in a conference game in school history.

East Stroudsburg
ESU opened the 2013-14 season with a 66-57 loss to #11 Holy Family on Saturday night at Koehler Fieldhouse. Warriors were within 47-42 with 8 minutes left before Tigers pulled away. Jr. F Jessica Martin (13 points, 13 rebounds, 6 blocks) and Fr. F Allison Howard (12 points, 13 rebounds) were first ESU teammates since at least 2002 with 12+ points, rebounds in the same game. 3rd time with 2 double-doubles in a game since then. Martin is the only returner in PSAC East with multiple all-conference honors (2nd team as freshman and sophomore, and 2012 Freshman of the Year). She has 143 career blocks, 3 from entering the PSAC's top 25 (had PSAC freshman record 76 in 2012). Had her 10th career game with 5+ blocks. Warriors are coming off their first PSAC Tournament appearance since 2008 and were picked 6th in PSAC East. Open divisional play vs. Mansfield Wednesday, and at Kutztown Saturday.

Edinboro
Edinboro opened its season with an 81-64 win over Urbana. 

Gannon
The No. 2 Gannon Lady Knights defeated Walsh, 80-68, in the team’s home opener at the Hammermill Center on Nov. 13. The win marked the Lady Knights’ fifth straight victory to open the season at home. In the win, senior Jen Papich and junior Nettie Blake earned their first double-doubles of the season each finishing with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Brittany Batts added 15 points to the team’s total. Head coach Jim Brunelli became the fifth Lady Knights’ head coach since 1980 to capture a win in their debut. The No. 2 Lady Knights snapped Glenville State's 27-game home win streak on Nov. 16, with a 90-84 road- victory. Batts drilled a career-high eight three-pointers for a game-high 24 points, while redshirt junior Doriyon Glass and freshman Brianna Brennan recorded their first career double-doubles.The Lady Knights open PSAC play Wednesday, Nov. 20, against California (Pa.) at 5:30 p.m. It will be a rematch of Gannon's 50-47 victory during last year's NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional championship game.
 
IUP
The Crimson Hawks started off the season with a pair of home wins over Bluefield State and Fairmont State... Jr. G Lindsay Stamp led IUP in the scoring column in both contests, scoring 21 points in a 56-45 win over Bluefield and 20 points in a 62-46 win over previously unbeaten Fairmont State... Jr. F Ashley Stoner had IUP's first double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds against Fairmont State... The Crimson Hawks open up their PSAC schedule on Wednesday as they host Pitt-Johnstown at 5:30 p.m.
 
Kutztown
Kutztown University (1-2) grabbed its first win of the season with a 75-71 victory over Philadelphia University, handing the Rams their first loss of the season. KU trailed the entire game until there was 11 minutes left, holding off the Rams the rest of the way until the final buzzer. Kelsey Watson recorded 19 points (8-11 FG) and 11 rebounds against West Liberty, marking the highest scoring total for a freshman in a season-opener since 2005. Watson leads the team with 30 rebounds. Alyssa Bonenberger has reached double-digit scoring in every game so far this season, and leads the team with 42 points. Freshman Jess Harvey has dished out 4.7 assists per game and nailed two huge consecutive three-pointers to take the lead in the win against Philadelphia.

Lock Haven
The Lady Eagles opened the season with an 82-74 home win against Wilmington (Del.), but dropped their next two contests. Lock haven lost 91-86 to New York Institute of Technology and 50-47 to Goldey-Beacom in the 2013 Wolf's Bus Lines Classic hosted by Shippensburg.

Mansfield
Mansfield is looking for its first win of the 2013-14 campaign, as the Mounties fell 86-77 to Merrimack and 83-67 to LeMoyne.

Mercyhurst
Mercyhurst lost its season opener, 75-68, to Findlay on November 16...freshman Natalie Piaggesi recorded 22 points and 12 rebounds in her first game as a Laker...senior Alayna White added 13 points and 14 boards...Piaggesi and White are the first Laker teammates to post double-doubles in the same game since December 1, 2004, when Julie Anderson and Jessica Olmstead pulled the feat...Piaggesi's 22 points are the most by a Mercyhurst freshman in her first game since Julie McChesney scored 22 points to begin the 1991-92 season...the Lakers host Seton Hill on Wednesday in the Western Division opener at 5:30 pm.
 
Millersville
Millersville opened its season with an impressive 91-76 victory over California (Pa.), which was the Marauders' most lopsided win against the Vulcans since Jan. 13, 2001 (81-56). Gallagher led the way with 24 points, four rebounds, three assists, and one steal, as she was one of five scorers in double-figures. The other four were Celeste Robinson (16), Senada Mehmedovic (14), Yasmin Cooper (13), and Sabina Mehmedovic (11). In Millersville's 92-83 victory over West Liberty, Yasmin Cooper recorded her second double-double in as many nights with 29 points and 18 rebounds. Cooper was one of four Marauders in double-figures along with Senada Mehmedovic (15), Gallagher (15), and Robinson (10). Millersville scored 90 points in back-to-back games for the first time since November of 1993. Shelby Reimer led the Marauders in scoring in the 86-71 loss to Charleston with a career-high 20 points and was 6-of-9 from 3-point range.

Pitt-Johnstown
Team opened season with loss at Davis & Elkiins, before defeating Washington Adventist, 91-58 in Thursday's home opener

Seton Hill
Seton Hill is unbeaten headed in to conference play with three wins. They defeated West Virginia University Institute of Technology 90-76. The Griffins beat University of Sciences 72-56 and Shepherd 72-62.

Shippensburg
SHIP went 2-1 in its opening week, defeating Shepherd and 2013 NCAA Tournament qualifier NYIT but falling in between to Goldey-Beacom. SHIP scored 94 points against NYIT, its most in a game over three years (Nov. 13, 2010. Stephanie Knauer averaged a double-double with 18.0 points and 10.7 rebounds in the three-game span. Freshman guard Lauren Gold averaged 11.7 points and 6.0 assists while senior small forward Sarah Strybuc averaged 15.7 points per game. Gold had 11 assists in the win over NYIT, the most by an SU player since Feb. 24, 2010. Strybuc and Gold were named to the 2013 Wolf's Bus Lines Classic All-Tournament Team. 49 percent of SU's minutes have come from freshmen and 81 percent of SU's minutes have come from either freshmen or sophomores.
 
Slippery Rock
Slippery Rock is out to an 0-3 start after losses on the road to Urbana and Ursuline and a tight home loss to Wheeling Jesuit ... The Rock is scoring 68.3 points per game and giving up 83.0 points per game ... Jazmyne Frost is averaging a double-double of 19.0 points and 10.3 rebounds per game and shooting an incredible 74.2 percent from the field.
 
West Chester
West Chester is 1-2 to open the 2013-14 season. The Golden Rams lost 90-87 to Philadelphia, 79-76 to University of Sciences, and defeated Shepherd 96-68.
