Indiana, Pa. - Jorn van der Veer of Mercyhurst earned the men's tennis PSAC Champion Scholar award for boasting the highest grade point average among the male student-athletes participating in the championship.

The PSAC Champion Scholar Award, begun during the 2011-12 academic year, is modeled after the NCAA's Elite 89 award and honors the student-athlete with the top grade point average that is competing at the site of each of the PSAC's 23 team championship finals. The selection criteria for the Champion Scholar Awards is identical to that of the NCAA Elite 89 awards, which honor the student-athlete with the top GPA at each of the championship final sites of the 89 NCAA championships across all three divisions - I, II and III.

Veer, a senior from Hoofddorp, Netherlands, has maintained a perfect 4.0 grade point average as a business and accounting major with 138 completed credit hours.
