IUP and California to Play at NCAA Nationals; Cal's Women Advance to National Championship

Round Three Results
Wheeling, W. Va. - The IUP men's golf team won the NCAA Super East Region tournament in order to advance to the national championship alongside California who placed third.
IUP shot a 288 as a team in the third round to combine with their first two days scores of 308 and 295 for a total of 891. Zach Kempa, the PSAC Conference individual champion, earned first in the individual competition, as he finished play shooting a two under with a three day score of 214.
California earned a three-day team score of 902, with Adam Jeffery leading the team with a score of 222 to tie him for third as an individual. The Vulcans will also represent the PSAC with IUP at the national tournament hosted by Millersville in Hershey, Pa.
Wilmington is the other institution to qualify from the East Region for the national tournament.
Millersville's Robert Coyne led his team to a fifth place finish. Coyne capped play with a second place finish in order to send him to the NCAA National Championship with a three-day score of 215, just one behind Kempa.
Gannon men's team finished tied for 10th, while West Chester came in 12th. Mercyhurst's top golfer, Jake Pilarski, finished tied for 27th.

The California women's golf team finished third in the NCAA Super Region One and will advance to play in the national tournament for the fourth-consecutive year.
The Vulcans opened the final round in second place before shooting a 40-over 328 on Tuesday to finish at 107-over 971 (327-316-328). Senior Maria Lopez led the Vulcans with a six-over 78 in the final round to finish the tournament tied for seventh overall at 20-over 236 (81-77-78). She carded a three-over through the first 13 holes on Tuesday at Joliet Country Club, highlighted by a birdie on the par-four 11th. Lopez has placed in the top-10 overall at the NCAA Regional Championships in each of the last two years and three times in her career.
The Vulcans will compete in the NCAA National Championships from May 15-18 in Daytona Beach, Fla., at LPGA International. Last spring, Cal U registered its best-ever showing at the event by placing sixth overall behind a pair of top-15 individual finishes.

The IUP men's golf team held onto its second-place standing with a round two score of 295. Combined with the squad's round one score of 308 gives the team a total of 603, just four strokes behind Wilmington (599). Zach Kempa moved up four slots and is in second place in the individual race, as he shot a one under in round two.
Robert Coyne still leaders the Marauders, who are currently in third place in the team rankings with a combined two-day total of 605 points. Coyne has strung together a two over par the first day and a one under on the second round for a score of 143.
California is in fourth in the team race with a two-day total of 610, while West Chester is tied for eigth with 621 points. Gannon is in 10th with 623 points. Mercyhurst's top indiviudal, Cory Vinborg is tied for 14th after shooting a 75 (+4) on day one and a 77 (+6) on Tuesday.
The top three teams that emerge from the regionals will advance to the national tournament in Hershey, Pa. hosted by Millersville.

Round Two Results
The Vulcans of California moved into second place in the team standings at the NCAA Super Region One Championships at Joliet Country Club.
The ladies finished just one stroke back of the lowest score of the round at 28-over 316. The Vulcans now rank second at the three-day event with a 67-over 643 (327-316), moving past Ashland (325-321-646) which shot a 33-over 321 in the second round.

In the men's regional, IUP is currently tied for second place with a combined score of 308 at Speidel Jones Course in Wheeling, W. Va.
Millersville isn't far behind in fourth with a team score of 309, and California is tied for fifth at 310. West Chester is ninth at 312 and Gannon sits in 11th with 319.
Robert Coyne is the top individual from the PSAC after day one of action with a 73 on a 71-par course. Zach Kempa of IUP is next and is tied for sixth with a +4 mark.

Joliet, Ill. - The California women's golf team is currently third in the NCAA Division II East Super Regional at Joliet Country Club with a combined score of 327 points after one round of play.
Kim Thomas is in the lead for the Vulcans with a score of 79 and is tied for eighth, while Maria Lopez is not far behind and tied for 14th with a score of 81. Full individual/team leaderboard
The regional format consists of 54 holes played over three days. The low three teams and and one individual from each regional will advance to the NCAA finals, May 15-17, in Daytona Beach, Fla., at LPGA International.
The course features a par-72, Perry Maxwell design that stretches to 6,013 yards from the championship tees.

Indianapolis - The California (Pa.) women's golf team will travel to Joliet Country Club in Joliet, Ill. for the NCAA Division II Women's Golf East Super Regional on May 5-7.
The Vulcans are the lone PSAC women's team to gain entry into the NCAA Championship.
All participants will compete throughout the 54 holes of competition. The top three teams along with the top three individuals not with a team from each super regional will advance to the championships.
The 2013 NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championships will be held May 15-18, at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Indianapolis – The NCAA released on Friday afternoon the 80 teams and an additional 32 individuals that will compete in the NCAA Division II Men’s Golf Championship.
IUP, ranked first in the Atlantic Region, along with California, Gannon, West Chester, and Millersville will all represent the PSAC at Oglebay Resort in Wheeling, W. Va. hosted by West Liberty on May 6-8. Mercyhurst’s Jake Pilarski and Cory Vinborg will also be competing at the Atlantic/East Regional tournament as individuals.
At a minimum, the top three teams and the top two student-athletes not with a team from each regional (regardless of region) will advance to the finals May 20-24, at Hershey Country Club in Hershey, Pa. The finals will be hosted by Millersville at Hershey Country Club (East Course).
