WOMEN'S RECAP

The Shippensburg University women’s track & field team cruised to another PSAC Outdoor Championship and its fourth straight “Triple Crown” on Saturday afternoon with 151 points from Millersville University as senior Caitlin Stuetz was named both the Track Athlete and the Most Outstanding Athlete of the Meet.

The women's Outstanding Field Athlete of the PSAC Championship was awarded to April Doyle of Kutztown who earned the 2013 shot put title on Friday. 

Stuetz won her third straight outdoor title in the 100 hurdles while also defending her championship in the 400 hurdles. Senior Sarah Brotzman won the discuss and the Raiders took both the 4x100 meter and 4x400 meter relays. Full Shippensburg write-up

Other women title winners on the track include Victoria Davis of Bloomsburg in the 1500m with a time of 4:34.47. Davis also won the 3000 steeplechase with a time of 10:34.52. IUP's Brooke McDaniel won the 110 hurdles in 14.08, while the 100m dash went to Danielle Smith of East Stroudsburg with a time of 12.10.

The women's 200 gold medel went to Olivia Lopes of Mansfield who crossed the line in 24.71, and the 800 run was won by West Chester's Nicoel Smith in 2:15.89. The women's 4x100 title went to Shippensburg with a combined time of 47.10, as did the 4x400 with a 3:51.31 time. Alexandra Arnold of Slippery Rock tossed the javelin 147' 0" to earn gold in the women's javelin.  


The NCAA National Outdoor Track and Field Championship will be held May 23-25 in Pueblo, Colorado.

MEN'S RECAP

In a neck-and-neck battle with Slippery Rock on Saturday afternoon, the Shippensburg University men’s track & field team entered the 4x400-meter relay trailing the Rock by 0.5 points before winning the relay and pulling ahead with 178 points for its fifth straight PSAC Outdoor Championship at the conference meet hosted by Millersville University.

Senior Herman Kirkland won the 100 meters on Sunday and was named the Most Outstanding Athlete of the Meet. Sophomore Steve Waithe won the triple jump and junior Matt Kujawski won the 100 meters. Full Shippensburg Write-Up

The men's Most Valuable Field Athlete of the PSAC Championship was awarded to Matt Tholis of East Stroudsburg who tossed the javelin 68.24m (223' 11") for an NCAA automatic qualifier. Kori Meshaw of Kutztown earned the Most Valuable Track Athlete of the championship for winning the 400m hurdles with a time of 51.89 and taking third in the 110m hurdles.

Slippery Rock's Jonathan Boyd won the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.52. Also on the track, the 4x100 Slippery Rock squad won gold with a time of 40.92. Lock Haven's Mitch Miller was the 3000m steeplechase victor with a time of 9:10.52.

East Stroudsburg's Damien Boham took the 400 gold crossing the finish line in 47.66 seconds. The 800 m race was won by The Rock's Kevin Jewel in 1:50.93.

In other men's field events, Cameron Daugherty won with a clearance of 5.06m (16' 7.25"). Zachary Wisneski of Slippery Rock won the men's discus with a mark of 47.31m (155' 4.0"). 


The NCAA National Outdoor Track and Field Championship will be held May 23-25 in Pueblo, Colorado.

DAY TWO RECAP

Millersville, Pa. – The 2013 PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship completed day two of competition on Friday in Millersville, Pa., as the men’s decathlon and women’s heptathlon concluded and track and field events got underway.
 
Austin Strine of Shippensburg extended his lead in the men’s decathlon to earn a 6,380-point victory with the 1500 being his biggest point-getter on Friday with a time of 4:38.20.
 
Brianne Dietrich of Edinboro earned the gold in the women’s heptathlon with 4,588 points, followed closely in second place by her teammate Stephanie Smigieria at 4,577 points.
 
In the only individual track final event of the day, Katrina Spratford won the 5,000m run in 16:54.27. In the men’s race, it was Alex Monroe of Lock Haven that crossed the line first with a time of 14:45.62.
 
In the men’s and women’s 4x800 relay race, it was Slippery Rock earning first for the men with a combined time of 7:41.85, while the Bloomsburg women finished first with a time of 9:13.60.
 
A slew of field events wrapped-up on Friday, with April Doyle of Kutztown leading the way in the shot put to earn her eighth PSAC title in her collegiate campaign with a mark of 13.84m (45’ 5.0”). Also of Kutztown, Rosealine Farrell clinched the top slot in the hammer throw with a toss of 54.94m (152’ .04”).
 
In the women’s jumps, Rachel Eshleman was the third Golden Bear to place first in an individual field event on Friday. Eshleman cleared 1.73m (5’ 8.0”) in the women’s high jump. Aniyah Williams of East Stroudsburg took home gold in the women’s long jump with a mark of 5.18m (17’ 0.0”).
 
Slippery Rock’s Kaitlyn Clark outdid the PSAC competition in the women’s pole vault with a clearance of 3.81m (12’ 6.0”).
 
Lock Haven’s Mark Manno earned another hammer throw first place medal in his career, this time with a mark of 59.11m (193’ 11”). Slippery Rock’s Kyle Toms launched the shot put 16.42 meters (153’ 10.5”) to earn first in the PSAC.
 
Shippensburg’s Herman Kirkland won his third consecutive PSAC Outdoor men’s long jump title with a leap of 7.52m (24’ 8.25”).
 
Action continues on Saturday with event times being moved-up one hour due to a poor weather forecast.
 
 

















DAY ONE RECAP

Millersville, Pa. – The 2013 PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship kicked-off on Thursday in Millersville, Pa. with the first-round of events in the men’s decathlon, women’s heptathlon, and the men’s and women’s 10,000m run.
 
In the lead in the men’s decathlon following the conclusion of the high jump, long jump, shot put, 400m and the 100m, is Shippensburg’s Austin Strine with 3,386 points. Stine won both jumping events with a mark of 1.95m in the high jump and leaping 6.38 meters.
 
Slippery Rock’s Andrew Greenslade is in second place with 3,375 points but was leading the field for the majority of the first day of competition. Andrew Sloves of East Stroudsburg is in third with 3,248 points.
 
Alyssa Wherry of Lock Haven sits in first in the heptathlon with 2,757 points. She earned her highest number of points in the 200m with a time of 26.23 for 777 points. Wherry is followed closely by Clarion’s Kristen Belko at 2,702 points, who won the high jump event with a mark of 1.63m for 771 points.
 
 Slippery Rock’s Stephanie Case won the women’s 10000m with a NCAA provisional time of 36:12.24. Shippensburg’s Stephanie Pryor took second place, as she crossed the finish line in 36:18.88 to also clinch a provisional mark.
 
In the men’s 10000m run, Nick Patton of Bloomsburg earned the victory for the Huskies with a time of 31:41.49. Edinboro stole the next three slots with Dustin Thomas leading the way with a 31:42.83 time, while teammates Logan Kempney and Bart Eckel finished third and fourth respectively.
 
Action continues tomorrow with the men’s decathlon and women’s heptathlon finishing-up competition beginning at 10:00 a.m.
