California’s Lucie Sipkova and Kutztown’s Ridhima Borooah Hold Women’s Tennis Honors

PSAC All-Conference History

Lock Haven, Pa. – California’s Lucie Sipkova and Kutztown’s Ridhima Borooah were named their respective division’s PSAC Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Year. In the West, Vulcan Alexandra Borgenhoff clinched PSAC Freshman of the Year honors, while Bloomsburg’s Caitlin Flynn was named the East’s Freshman of the Year. Millersville’s Shari Bucklin-Webber claimed the PSAC Coach of the Year in the East and Cal’s Pablo Montana was named the West’s Coach of the Year.
 
Sipkova has helped her squad to a 14-9 record this season including the team’s seventh consecutive PSAC Team Tennis title. Heading into NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional competition riding a team-best eight-match winning streak and holds a 22-9 mark at No. 1 singles. Sipkova, a singles and doubles All-Conference selection, is 27-5 at doubles with teammate Lucie Rey, including a 3-0 mark against regionally ranked opponents.
 
Borooah, the PSAC Team Women’s Tennis Champion Scholar, capped the season with an a 11-4 overall record in singles competition and an 11-7 doubles record with teammate Hannah Pipkin, a singles and doubles All-Conference selection. The former PSAC Freshman of the Year (2010) is a repeat singles and doubles All-Conference selection from a year ago. The senior helped her team clinch the program’s first PSAC East Division title in school history, as the team posted a perfect 6-0-league record.
 
Borgenhoff of California currently is one of three Vulcans to hold 20 wins or more on the season with a 27-8 overall record. Borgenhoff, playing at primarily No. 3 singles, heads into the NCAA Atlantic Regional holding a four-match winning streak along with a five-match win streak at No. 2 doubles beside teammate Ramona Czakon.
 
Caitlin Flynn of Bloomsburg won five of six conference matches as a rookie to help her earn the East’s Freshman of the Year award. Flynn finished her freshman campaign with a 13-8 record in singles play, while also posting nine wins in doubles. Flynn went on a five-match winning streak in the middle of the season that saw her defeat four PSAC East foes.
 
Shari Bucklin-Webber has won her second consecutive East Coach of the Year title, as she led her team to the postseason for the second time in six years. In five seasons with the Marauders men and women’s programs she has guided her teams to a combined seven PSAC tournament appearances.
 
Winning the 2013 West Coach of the Year award marks Pablo Montana’s fifth in 11 seasons at the helm of the Vulcans’ program. Montana won the award in 2011, 2009, 2007, and 2005. This season Montana has guided California to its seventh-straight PSAC Championship crown and the top seed in the NCAA Atlantic Region, as the program is making its ninth-consecutive regional appearance.
 
Among the All-Conference selections is Millersville’s Melissa Plowman, who has earned an additional two singles and a doubles All-Conference slots in her career. Plowman along with Borooah, Pipkin, and Alex Santoro of West Chester are both singles and doubles All-Conference honorees.
 
In the West, Caroline Bristol of Mercyhurst is a repeat singles and doubles selection, while Katie Eaton of IUP has earned her first singles nod of her career to accompany two doubles All-Conference honors earned in previous seasons. Bristol, Eaton, and Sipkova are the only West players to earn spots on both the singles and doubles All-Conference lists.
