WOMEN'S RECAP 

Kutztown, Pa. – The Mansfield women's cross country team earned three top 10 finishes to capture its first-ever PSAC Women’s Cross Country Championship on Saturday in Kutztown, Pa.

Jess Scordino finished third overall with a time of 2:12.2 over the 6K course at Kutztown with twin sister Kristy Scordino three spots back in sixth place at 22:30.6.
 
Bloomsburg’s Vicki Davis was the championship’s individual medalist with a time of 21:34.0. Davis set a new course record, breaking Shippensburg’s Neely Spence’s time of 21:42.0.
 
Edinboro’s Sarah Krolick came in second with a time of 22:12.2, while IUP’s Rachel Magliane and Samantha Thompson took fourth and fifth, respectively.

Mansfield knocked off four nationally-ranked programs and ending Shippensburg's five-year run of PSAC titles. The Mountaineers won the championship with 65 points, while Edinboro finished second with 77 points. Defending PSAC Champion Shippensburg came in third with 103 points.

It marks Mansfield's first PSAC title in any sport since men's basketball and baseball captured conference titles in 1997. It was also only the second PSAC Championship won by a Mountaineer women's team since Mansfield won the conference volleyball title in 1983.

The top 20 individual finishers at the PSAC Championship have earned All-Conference honors.

MEN'S RECAP

Kutztown, Pa. – Senior Alex Monroe won his third straight individual crown to lead the No. 13 Lock Haven Bald Eagles to the 2013 PSAC Men’s Cross Country Championship title on Saturday in Kutztown, Pa.
 
The Bald Eagles put five guys in the top 14 and eight in the top 30, as the Eagles topped second-place and ninth-ranked Edinboro by 35 points. The team title marks Lock Haven's first PSAC title since 2009 and sixth overall.
 
Individually, The Haven men finished the 8K first, fourth, seventh, 11th and 14th on the way to 37 total points. No. 9 Edinboro was second with 72 points and No. 18 Shippensburg rounded out the top-three teams with 89 points.
 
Monroe clinched the crown with a course record time of 24:43.6. California’s Aaron Dinzeo took second overall with a time of 24:46.2, while Shippensburg’s Brayden Burleigh earned third with a time of 25:25.9. 

The top 20 individual finishers at the PSAC Championship have earned All-Conference honors.

PREVIEW STORY

Kutztown, Pa. – 18 women’s teams and 16 men’s teams from around the PSAC will run in the 2013 PSAC Cross Country Championships hosted by Kutztown University on Saturday, October 26.
 
The women’s 6K race is slated to begin at 10:00 a.m., while the men’s 8K race will follow at approximately 11:00 a.m. An awards ceremony will be held following both races at 12:00 p.m.
 
Perennial powerhouse Shippensburg clinched its fifth consecutive PSAC Women’s Cross Country Championship title a year ago led by individual champion Katie Spratford. Shippensburg’s top returner from last season’s league championship race is senior Emma Shank, who finished tenth overall and third for the Raiders with a time of 22:43.8.
 
With Spratford graduated, the 2012 second-place finisher Vicki Davis of Bloomsburg will have an opportunity to clinch the individual accolade. With a time of 21:42.1, Davis was Bloomsburg’s only top 20 finisher last season.
 
Edinboro took second a year ago in the women’s race with seniors Sarah Krolick and Kacey Gibson finishing the 6,000 meters fourth and sixth, respectively.
 
On the men’s side, Edinboro is searching for its third straight PSAC title and it’s 30th in program history. A year ago at Slippery Rock, senior Bryan Deibel led the Fighting Scots to gold with a time of 25:40.2 for fourth place. Seniors Dustin Thomas and Matt Link were right behind Deibel finishing fifth and sixth, respectively.
 
Senior Alex Monroe of Lock Haven will be on the hunt for his third PSAC individual title. A year ago, Monroe cruised to first with a time of 25:08.8 and finished first in 2011 with a time of 24:31.4.
 
Monroe led the Bald Eagles to a third-place finish in 2012, while East Stroudsburg took second place. Chris Schneider will lead the Warriors at the 2013 championship, as he finished seventh overall last season with a time of 25:58.1.
