Millersville's Celeste Robinson chalked-up 21 points in a 72-61 win over Shippensburg, while grabbing five rebounds, dishing-out four assists and earning four steals and three blocks. The Kregsville, Pa. native was 7-of-14 from the field and 7-for-9 at the free throw line. In a 74-47 victory over Lock Haven, Robinson led all scorers with 19 points, 13 of which came in the first half, on an 8-of-10 shooting performance. The sophomore guard also had six rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Robinson shot at a 62.5% clip in the two games while averaging 20 points and 5.5 rebounds. |

Amber Genwright

Chester, Pa. / Sanford School
In Cheyney's 80-72 win over Lock Haven Amber Genwright notched a career-high 22 points. Along with her 22 points she added two rebounds and a pair of assists. Against East Stroudsburg, Genwright scored 15 points, while contributing six rebounds and a steal. |

Edinboro's Aignee' Freeland posted a double-double in back-to-back games. The sophomore registered 19 points and 11 rebounds in a 66-59 win over IUP. She followed that with 28 points and 12 rebounds in an 85-67 win over Clarion. The forward went 19-of-29 from the floor, while also sinking 9-of-11 from the charity stripe. Freeland pulled-down a total 23 rebounds in the two wins with 10 coming off the offensive glass. On the week she totaled five blocks, three assists, and three steals. |

Mariah Penascino
Mercyhurt (Fr./ G)
Bethel Park, Pa. / Bethel Park
Mercyhurst's Mariah Penascino recorded her first career double-double on January 25 at Pitt-Johnstown. She totaled 15 points and grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds, including five offensive boards, while converting on 9-of-10 free throws. Against Clarion, Penascino tallied five points and six assists. |
TEAM NOTES
Bloomsburg
The Huskies (15-3, 5-2 PSAC East) continued their winning ways this week by stretching their winning streak to eight straight with victories over Mansfield (84-53) and at Kutztown (74-56).
Jocelyn Ford and
Adreana Sadowski each averaged 12.5 points this week with
Ford handing out 10 assists in two games.
Brianna Dudeck poured in a season-high 13 points at Kutztown while
Sadowski added 15.
Ford tallied 18 points in the win over Mansfield. Bloomsburg travels to Millersville on Wednesday before hosting Lock Haven on Saturday.
California (Pa.)
The Vulcans closed the opening round of divisional play in third place in the PSAC West standings and three games back of first place. Cal U earned its fifth win in the past six meetings with Seton Hill on Saturday, earning a 78-70 victory behind four players scoring in double-figures. Junior
Irina Kukolj led the team with 19 points off the bench after tying her career high with three three-pointers. Senior forward
Ashley Hines recorded her second double-double of the year, and seventh career, with 12 points and 12 rebounds while making a consecutive start. Cal U opens the second round of league play against nationally-ranked Gannon, who won both post-season meetings against the Vulcans last year. However, Cal U has defeated Gannon at the Convocation Center in each of the last two years.
Cheyney
The Lady Wolves split contests this week, defeating Lock Haven at home and falling to ESU on the road. Cheyney has won two of their last three. The last time Cheyney had three or more conference victories was in the 2009-10 season. In the victory, both
Kia Whitley-Duncan and
Amber Genwright both netted career highs.
Whitley-Duncan dropped 27 including a perfect 12-12 from the charity stripe while
Genwright tallied 22. The Lady Wolves shot a season best .553 (26-47) from the field including a season best 7-10 from the behind the arc. The 82 points scored was also a season high. You have to go back to the 2009-20 season for the last time the Lady Wolves scored more than 82 points. In the loss,
Shayna Miller grabbed a career high 10 rebounds. The Lady Wolves were credited with 11 steals equaling their season high. Cheyney looks for revenge
on Wednesday night hosting cross-town rival West Chester. On Saturday the Lady Wolves will travel to Shippensburg.
Clarion
Emma Fickel became the 15th player in school history and the first since 2008 to score 1,000 career points when she netted 8 Saturday vs. Edinboro giving her 1,000 points exactly.
Hannah Heeter recorded two more double-doubles during the week giving her 4 straight, 8th of the season and 36th of her career. The 8 double-doubles ranks as the 6th most by a junior in school history.
Heeter now has 862 points, 768 rebounds in 62 career games. Fr.
Kelly Johnson now has at least one steal in 12 straight contests.
East Stroudsburg
ESU is 9-9 (4-4 PSAC East) entering the 2nd half of the divisional schedule. Warriors were 1-1 last week (W 70-58 vs. Cheyney, L 83-68 at West Chester). ESU led Cheyney, 70-43, before Wolves scored final 15 points. Jr. F
Jessica Martin had 12 points, 10 rebounds and 5 blocks for her 8th double-double of the season (t-2nd in PSAC). So. G
Helena Gemmell (11 points) and Fr. G
Audrey Stapleton (10) were both one off their career-high.
Martin had 19 points, 6 rebounds and 4 blocks at West Chester. She leads the PSAC in blocks (2.9 per game), and ranks 2nd at ESU and 14th in PSAC history with 189 career blocks.
Martin is 11 blocks from entering the PSAC's carer top 10 (200) during her junior season.
Martin leads ESU with 12.7 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. She anchors an ESU defense that leads the PSAC in blocks (5.1 per game) and 3-point % (26.0), ranks 2nd in field goal % (38.4) and 3rd in scoring (63.3 ppg). ESU has scored and allowed exactly 1,139 points during 9-9 start. Warriors are 6-2 when holding opponents to 63 or fewer points, and 3-7 when allowing 64+. ESU is at Mansfield and hosts Kutztown this week.
Edinboro
Edinboro extended its winning streaks to nine games, the fifth longest in Edinboro history. Outscored the opposing team from the free throw line in back-to-back games for the first time this season,
Aignee' Freeland posted double-doubles in back-to-back games.
Lauren Hippo scored in double-figures in both games of the week, the third straight time she has done so.
Valerie Majewski scored 24 points against Indiana (Pa.), the second highest mark of her career.
Majewski also added five steals at Clarion, also the second most of her career.
Gannon
In recent action, the No. 5 Gannon Lady Knights captured an 86-47 win over Pitt-Johnstown on Jan. 22 to improve to 18-1 overall and 7-1 in the West Division. The Lady Knights' 39 point margin of victory was the largest since the 2011-12. - Head coach Jim Brunelli recorded his 100th career victory in the win over Pitt-Johnstown. This season, Brunelli holds an 8-0 record against fellow head coaches in their first year at their respective institutions. - The victory over UPJ marked the Lady Knights 24th consecutive regular-season win on home court, ranking fourth in the active win streaks in NCAA Division II. The last regular-season home loss came in the 2011-12 season. In 40 years of women’s basketball at the Hammermill Center, the Lady Knights hold an all-time record of 351-146. After a bye weekend, the Lady Knights hit the reset button in divisional play. Next up will be California (Pa.) on Jan. 29. In this year’s conference home opener, the Lady Knights defeated the visiting Vulcans, 73-64, on Nov. 20 to capture their third straight in the all-time series. Following the mid-week meeting at Cal, the Lady Knights return home to host Seton Hill on Feb. 1. In their first meeting as conference opponents, the Lady Knights captured an 80-66 road-win over Seton Hill on Nov. 23, who is in its first season in the PSAC.
IUP
IUP will start off there week by first traveling to Pitt-Johnstown on Wednesday the 29
th. On February 2
nd Clarion will be making a visit to IUP.
Kutztown
The Kutztown University women's basketball (6-12, 3-5 PSAC E) team suffered two setbacks this week to Eastern Division rivals at the top of the conference. KU fell behind early in the first half to Shippensburg, as the Raiders put on a shooting clinic to grab the 86-57 victory. At the end of the first 20 minutes, KU shot 25.9 percent from the field and 0-for-2 from three-point range, compared to Shippensburg's 51.6 percent and 6-for-8 from downtown.
Nicole Donahue finished with a team-high 16 points and four rebounds.
Advia Campbell continued her all-around contribution, leading the team in rebounds (9), assists (3), blocks (3), and steals (3). Falling behind after an early first-half run, KU fell to Bloomsburg, 74-56. KU coughed up 28 turnovers in the defeat, the most this season since the squad's second game of the season.
Advia Campbell led with 14 points, six rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and two steals, but did miss all three attempts from the charity stripe.
Jess Harvey also scored in double-figures, finishing with 11 points and four boards.
Lock Haven
The Lady Eagles concluded the week (Jan.20 – Jan. 26) with two losses to Millersville and Cheyney. LHU has an overall record of 4-14 and 2-6 in PSAC East. Although LHU lost to Cheyney (Saturday, Jan. 25), three Lady Eagles recorded double-digit figures in points (
Moyer – 21,
Emily Daugherty - 16,
Lane – 12). LHU shot 72.0% from the free throw line and dished out 13 assists. Leading the way for LHU is junior
Marrysa Moyer who has had a remarkable season thus far.
Moyer averages 16.4 points per game (ranks ninth in PSAC) and 9.8 rebounds per game (ranks third in PSAC). Redshirt-junior
Emily Daugherty is the second leading scorer for the Haven despite battling some injuries this season.
Daugherty averages 14.6 points per game and averages 32.6 minutes per game. Looking ahead LHU looks to snap a two game losing streak as the Lady Eagles host Shippensburg
Wednesday (Jan. 29) and travel to Bloomsburg Saturday (Feb. 1). The Lady Eagles are 4-5 at home and 0-7 on the road this season.
Mansfield
The Mountaineers dropped an 84-53 decision to Bloomsburg on Wednesday to fall to 0-18 on the season. Mansfield was off on Saturday. Senior
Jena Matter scored a team-best 14 points against the Huskies while sophomore
Katie Fitzpatrick added 10 points.
Matter's 14 points moves the forward to within 50 points of becoming the 15th player in program history to score 1,000 career points.
Matter leads MU in scoring on the season averaging 14.2 points an outing.
Fitzpatrick is averaging 11.3 points a game with junior
Megan McSwain averaging 10.8 points an outing. The Mountaineers host East Stroudsburg at Decker Gymnasium on Wednesday.
Mercyhurst
The Lakers split a pair of Western Division games, moving to 4-4 in the conference. They defeated Clarion, 66-49, on January 22.
Adrienne Kloecker scored 23 points on 8-12 shooting, recording her seventh straight game with 18 or more points. She hit 5-6 threes as Mercyhurst posted season highs in made threes (10), assists (18), and steals (10). The Lakers allowed a season-low 49 points in the victory. Mercyhurst dropped a 67-62 decision at UPJ on January 25.
Alayna White put up 17 points and 11 rebounds for her eighth double-double of the season, while
Mariah Penascino had 15 points and a career-high 13 boards. The Lakers travel to Seton Hill on Wednesday for the next stop on their three-game road trip.
Millersville
In a 74-47 victory over Lock Haven on Wednesday night, Millersville (11-7, 6-2 PSAC East) held the Bald Eagles to just 11-of-55 shooting. The 47 points, 11 made field goals and 20.0 field goal percentage were all season-lows for a Millersville opponent this season. The 27-point margin also marked the Marauders' most lopsided win of 2013-14.
Celeste Robinson led all scorers with 19 points, 13 of which came in the first half, on a brilliant 8-of-10 shooting performance. She was 2-for-2 from behind the arc and made one of her two free throw attempts. She added six rebounds, two assists and one steal. Millersville then defeated Shippensburg 72-61 Saturday in a crucial PSAC East tilt.
Robinson led the way again with 21 points, five rebounds, four assists, four steals, and three blocks. The Kregsville, Pa. native was 7-of-14 from the field and 7-for-9 from the free throw line. She has now scored 17-plus points in six consecutive games.
Pitt-Johnstown
UPJ has a busy week. Starting out at home, I UP will be making a visit to them on Wednesday the 29
th. Pitt-Johnstown then will travel to Edinboro on February 2
nd.
Seton Hill
Seton Hill dropped both of its games last week. Falling 75-70 in OT at Slippery Rock and 78-70 at California (PA).
Katie Gattuso posted two more double doubles on the week, giving her 13 on the season. SHU will begin the second round of PSAC West play this week when they host Mercyhurst and travel to Gannon
Shippensburg
Shippensburg went 1-2 on the week with an 86-57 home win over Kutztown
on Wednesday preceding a 72-61 road loss at Millersville on Saturday. The win vs. the Golden Bears snapped a three-game home losing skid to Kutztown as SU shot 9-of-15 (60 percent) from beyond the arc. The Raiders led by seven early in the second half at Millersville but couldn't hold off a Marauder run in a poor second half en route to the loss to the divisional rival. Freshman point guard
Lauren Gold took on a greater scoring load this week, leading the team in points in both games. She scored a career-high 24 points vs. KU before pouring in 18 at Millersville. The split week dropped Shippensburg from a tie for second in the PSAC East to fourth place with a 5-3 divisional mark and an 11-7 overall record.
Slippery Rock
SRU broke through with a PSAC-West win over Seton Hill last week, led by another strong performance from
D'Asia Chambers.
Chambers put up double-doubles in both games last week and has three straight double-doubles. She is averaging 23.1 points and 9.6 rebounds per game in the last 7 games.
West Chester
Dallas Ely hit 11 of 17 from the field en route to scoring 26 points, while adding eight rebounds, to help lead the West Chester to an 83-68 home win over East Stroudsburg on Saturday, in the teams' only contest of the week.
Brittany Sicinski added 20 as West Chester improved to 7-1 and stayed a game ahead of the competition in the east. West Chester is the league's top scoring team averaging 81.7 per contest,
Ely leads the conference with a 19.6 average, and
Sicinski is 11th averaging 15.9 per contest. West Chester travels to cross town rival Cheyney on Wednesday, and hosts Mansfield on Saturday in a pair of eastern division matchups to start the conferences second half.
