PSAC WEEK 8 GAME NOTES

PSAC QUICK HITS

POSSIBLE PLAYOFF IMPLICATIONS

• In a battle of unbeatens, West Chester will travel to play Bloomsburg on Saturday at 2pm. Both squads enter the weekend 7-0 overall and 6-0 in conference play, and the winner will gain sole possession of the Eastern Division.

• The Huskies and Golden Rams are the only two PSAC teams that have been ranked in the AFCA and D2Football.com Top 25 polls every week in 2014. West Chester debuted at No. 10 on AFCA and 11th on D2Football.com and has moved up to No. 7 this week. Bloomsburg began the season No. 24 on the AFCA poll and 25th on the D2Football.com rankings. The Huskies crept up to 12th on both polls before jumping to No. 8/9 after last week’s win at Kutztown.

• In the West, California has gained a one-game lead over IUP, Gannon and Slippery Rock after back-to-back divisional wins over The Rock and Crimson Hawks. With the recent victories, the Vulcans have pushed themselves into the D2Football.com Top 25 and are currently ranked 23rd.

• IUP and Slippery Rock square-off on Saturday in an important West matchup, as the two teams will benefit from the head-to-head win in case of a tiebreaker scenario at the end of the season. Slippery Rock has the head-to-head advantage over Gannon with a 31-28 win earlier in October, while IUP will play Gannon on November 8. California will play Gannon at home on November 1.

REGIONAL RANKINGS AHEAD

• Next week the initial NCAA D-II Regional Rankings will be released.

• The NCAA Super Region One rankings are used to determine the six teams from the region that qualify for the NCAA D-II Football Championship tournament. The top two teams in each region receive a bye into the quarterfinals, while the No. 3 and 4 seeds host Nos. 5 and 6, respectively. The winners of the first round games then advance to play at No. 1 and 2 seeds in the region on December 6 in the quarterfinals.
