Alexander Hampel of IUP Named PSAC Men's Cross Country Champion Scholar

Alexander Hampel of IUP was named the PSAC Men's Cross Country Champion Scholar on Saturday at the 2014 PSAC Cross Country Championships. It is Hampel’s second time being named a Champion Scholar, as he earned the award at the 2014 PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
The PSAC Champion Scholar Award, begun during the 2011-12 academic year, is modeled after the NCAA's Elite 89 award and honors the student-athlete with the top grade point average who is competing at the site of each of the PSAC's 23 team championship finals. The selection criteria for the Champion Scholar Awards is identical to that of the NCAA Elite 89 awards, which honor the student-athlete with the top GPA at each of the championship final sites of the 89 NCAA championships across all three divisions - I, II and III.
Hampel has earned 118 credits and a 4.0 grade point average towards his biology degree. The senior is a native of Middletown, Delaware and attended the Salesianum School in Wilmington.
