SHIPPENSBURG WINS PSAC INDOOR TRACK & FIELD TITLES

Edinboro, Pa. – Shippensburg won both the men’s and women’s 2015 PSAC Indoor Track and Field Championships on Sunday at Mike S. Zafirovski Sports and Recreation Dome on the campus of Edinboro University.
 
In the women's team competition, Shippensburg edged Slippery Rock with 122 points, while The Rock ended with 114. The Raiders pulled-out the championship title with a victory in the 4x400m relay. Shippensburg has won six PSAC overall titles and four in the last five seasons. Bloomsburg finished in third with 71 points and California came in fourth with 70 points.
 
Shippensburg won the men's competition with 190.5 points, while Slippery Rock took second with 133 points. Shippensburg has now won five straight PSAC titles and eight overall. Lock Haven finished in third with 81 points and East Stroudsburg finished in fourth with 75 points.
 
East Stroudsburg’s Christina O’Connor, named the Most Valuable Field Athlete, set a PSAC championship record in the women’s high jump with a winning clearance of 1.78m (5’ 10”). The previous record of 1.76m was set in 2008 by Lock Haven’s Chelsea Morse and in 2009 by Slippery Rock’s Whitney Hendershot.
 
Bloomsburg’s Kate Dodds, named the women’s overall Most Valuable Athlete, won her second 2015 PSAC title with a first place finish in the 3000m run crossing the finish line in 9:58.06.
 
California’s Alexandra Zanella, named the championship’s Most Valuable Track Athlete, ran a winning time of 4:59.67 in the women’s mile, nearly six seconds faster than her closest competitor. She also won the 800m run in 2:16.16, beating out Slippery Rock’s Janine Powis at 2:16.28.
 
Slippery Rock’s Jasmine Bailey set the PSAC all-time and championship record in the 200m dash with a blazing time of 24.85. She bested the previous record of 24.92 set by Amber Plowden of IUP at the 2002 league championship.
 
Shippensburg’s Kiana Tucker, Lindsay Sheehan, Lundy, and Fells were victorious in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:54.85.
 
West Chester’s Kayla Owens won the women’s shot put with a facility-record-mark of 14.25m (46’ 9”).
 
Seton Hill’s Jenna Bracken captured gold in the women’s 60m hurdles with a time of 8.84 seconds.
 
East Stroudsburg’s Danielle Smith won the women’s 60m dash with a time of 7.62, tying the PSAC championship record set by Cheyney’s Simone Carter in 2012.
 
Shippensburg’s Briana Fells earned 10 team points with a victory in the 400m dash crossing the line in 57.21 seconds. Teammate Megan Lundy was just behind her at 58.26 for second place.
 
Shippensburg’s Sarah Hunt prevailed in the women’s triple jump posting a distance of 11.80m (38’ 8 ¾”).
 
Slippery Rock’s Noah Bostick won the heptathlon with 4,994 points. He won the 60m, long jump, shot put, and high jump on day one and placed second in the pole vault (4.21m – 13’ 9 ¾”), fourth in the 60m hurdles (8.68), and 13th in the 1000m (3:09.64).
 
Shippensburg’s LeQuan Chapman, named the championship’s Most Valuable Field and Overall Athlete, won his second 2015 PSAC title with a victory in the triple jump. He landed a distance of 14.51m (47’ 7 ¼”) to win the crown.
 
Teammate Brayden Burleigh, named the Most Valuable Track Athlete, set the PSAC championship record with a first place time of 8:14.66 in the 3000m run. Burleigh finished nearly 20 seconds ahead of second place Peter Gelston of Shippensburg (8:34.02).
 
East Stroudsburg’s Steven Morgan won the men’s 60m hurdles with an NCAA provisional time of 8.19 seconds.
 
Teammate Damien Boham won the 800m run with a time of 1:54.01.
 
California’s Julius Rivera posted a first place time of 6.83 seconds in the men’s 60m dash to earn the Vulcans 10 team points. 
 
Shippensburg took the top three slots in the men’s 400m dash with Eric Bologa leading the way with a time of 48.24. Robert Bales was second with a time of 48.79 and Andrew Kujawski placed third with a time of 48.83.
 
Slippery Rock’s Tyler Melius won the men’s mile with a time of 4:16.99, followed by Lock Haven’s Ben Robinson (4:18.22) and Slippery Rock’s Stephen Shephard (4:19.97) and Tyler Palenchak (4:20.14). 
 
Hunter Williams of Slippery Rock posted a winning time of 21.93 in the men’s 200m dash.
 
The Rock’s Trevor Miller set a facility record in the shot put with a toss of 16.98m (55’ 8 ½”). The previous record of 16.34m was set in 2013 by John Lowery of Kutztown.
 
Slippery Rock’s Monte Chapman, Williams, Jacob VanHouten, James Chandler won the men’s 4x400m relay with a combined time of 3:16.80.
 
Shippensburg’s Jalen Ramsey took the men’s high jump crown with a clearance of 2.05m (6’ 8 ¾”). 
 
The top three finishers in all events earn All-Conference honors.

DAY ONE: SLIPPERY ROCK WOMEN AND LOCK HAVEN MEN LEAD COMPETITION

Edinboro, Pa. – The 2015 PSAC Indoor Track and Field Championships completed its first day of competition on Saturday at Mike S. Zafirovski Sports and Recreation Dome on the campus of Edinboro University.
 
In the women's team competition, defending league champion Slippery Rock leads with 49 points, while Shippensburg is in second with 45 points. Edinboro sits in third with 38 points, while Bloomsburg is in fourth with 27 points.
 
Lock Haven leads the men's competition with 57 points, while Slippery Rock sits in second with 51. Shippensburg is in third with 47 points, while East Stroudsburg is fourth with 22.
 
Slippery Rock’s Sabrina Anderson won the pentathlon with 3,584 points. Against her competition she won the 60m hurdles (9.05) and the 800m run (2:26.55). She placed second to teammate Paige Kassab in the high jump with a clearance of 1.65m (5’ 5”), while Kassab cleared 1.68m (5’ 6”). She also took second in the long jump with a distance of 5.18m (17’ 0”) and was third in the shot put with a toss of 10.21m (33’ 6”).
 
Edinboro’s Brianne Dietrich won the women’s long jump with a leap of 5.83m (19’ 1.5”). Dietrich also took second in the pentathlon with 3,449 points. She won the long jump with a leap of 5.59m (18’ 4” ¼”).
 
Bloomsburg’s Kate Dodds posted a time of 17:14.23 to win the women’s 5,000 run.
 
Lock Haven’s Lindsay Hepburn won the women’s weight throw with a toss of 17.46m (57’ 3 ½”).
 
Slippery Rock’s Kaitlyn Clark took gold in the women’s pole vault with a clearance of 3.76m (12’ 4”).
 
Shippensburg’s Erika Huffman, April Schlusser, Laura Kibathi, and Kiana Tucker won the women’s 4x800 relay with a combined time of 9:36.56.
 
California’s Julie Friend, Allison Hall, Danae Burgwin, and Alexandra Zanella captured the distance medley relay title with a NCAA provisional time of 12:10.57.
 
The Rock’s Cody Colagrande cleared 4.9m (16’ ¾”) in the men’s pole vault to capture the crown. Teammates Jordan Pacheco and Michael Horrigan both cleared 4.8 (15’ 9”) and placed second and third, respectively.
 
Lock Haven’s Jake Heim and Brice Beals placed first and second in the men’s weight throw, respectively. Heim posted a mark of 17.92m (58’ 9 ½”) to take the title, followed by Beals’ toss of 17.59m (57’ 8 ½”). 
 
Teammate Zach Mains won the men’s 5,000m run with a facility-record time of 14:29.31.
 
Shippensburg’s LeQuan Chapman won the long jump with a mark of 7.15m (23’ 5 ½”).
 
Shippensburg’s Mathieu Bee, Nicholas Gibson, Matthew Sankey, and Bernard England won the men’s 4x800 relay with a combined time of 7:55.23.
 
Slippery Rock’s Ryan Thompson, Monte Chapman, Tyler Melius, and Zac Patton won the men’s distance medley relay with a time of 10:26.95.
 
Slippery Rock’s Noah Bostick is first in the heptathlon after day one with 2,927 points. He won every event with the following marks; 60m dash (7.22), long jump (6.65m – 21’ 10”), shot put (11.66m (38’ 3 ¼”), and high jump (2.0m – 6’ 6 ¾”).

PSAC CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW

Edinboro, Pa. – The 2015 PSAC Indoor Track and Field Championships will be contested this weekend at Mike S. Zafirovski Sports and Recreation Dome on the campus of Edinboro University. 


MEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP
Shippensburg has won the league crown for four straight seasons and owns seven total titles since the PSAC Indoor Track & Field Championship began being contested in 2002. Lock Haven has won five PSAC titles, while Slippery Rock won its lone crown in 2008.

Shippensburg’s Robert Bales owns the No. 1 seed in the 200m dash (22.05), while teammates Eric Bologa (48.24) and Andrew Kujawski (48.40) are ranked first and second, respectively, in the men’s 400m dash as the only two PSAC athletes that have established NCAA provisional marks in the event.

In the 800m run Red Raider Dan Dreeman is the runner to beat with a seed time of 1:53.49. Also seeded first is Shippensburg’s Ryan Spangler in the mile. He owns the league’s lone NCAA provisional time in the event with a time of 4:12.35. Teammates Kieran Sutton (8:13.91) and Brayden Burleigh (8:18.88) are one and two, respectively, in the men’s 3000m run.

Lock Haven’s Zach Mains, seeded third in the 3K, is ranked first in the 5000m run with a time of 14:47.30, nearly five seconds faster than his second-ranked teammate Ben Robinson (14:52.33).

California’s freshman Julius Rivera is looking to capture his first PSAC Championship title in the 60m dash, as he is seeded first in the event with a time of 6.88.

East Stroudsburg’s Steven Morgan owns the top seed in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.18 and is closely followed the 2014 PSAC 60m hurdle champion Terry Jackson of Seton Hill, who is ranked second with a time of 8.27.

In relays, Shippensburg is seeded first in all three with a time of 3:12.52 in the 4x400, 7:58.68 in the 4x800, and a 9:52.33 in the distance medley relay. The Raiders’ 4x400 relay time is currently a PSAC all-time record. 

In the field events, Shippensburg’s Jalen Ramsey is looking to improve on his third place finish a year ago in the high jump competition at the conference championship. Ramsey is ranked atop his competitors with a height of 2.11m (6’ 11”). East Stroudsburg’s Will Berry, the runner-up last season, is just behind him with a leap of 2.08m (6’ 9 ¾”).  

Kutztown’s Lanny Buck took the lead in the men’s pole vault last weekend clearing a height of 5.05m (16’ 6 ¾”). Buck is followed by a contingent of five Slippery Rock vaulters in which all but one has provisionally qualified for the NCAA championship. 

The Rock is led by defending PSAC champion Jordan Pacheco, who holds a height of 4.85m (15’ 11”) heading into the weekend. 

Shippensburg’s LeQuan Chapman is seeking the PSAC long jump title, as he enters the weekend ranked first with a distance of 7.28m (23’ 10 ¾”). Chapman won the men’s triple jump a season ago and finished second in the long jump. He is seeded second to Slippery Rock’s freshman Caleb Smithco, who landed a triple jump mark of 15.23m (49’ 11 ¾”) last weekend. 

Lock Haven’s Jake Heim holds the top spot in the men’s weight throw with a mark of 18.34m (60’ 2”), while Shippensburg’s Alec Rideout is ranked first in the shot put 16.92m (55’ 6 ¼”). 

Slippery Rock’s Noah Bostick is seeded first in the heptathlon with 4,809 points. 

WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP

Slippery Rock claimed its first PSAC Indoor Track and Field Championship title last season since sharing the crown with Shippensburg in 2008. The Rock has now won four overall team titles, while Shippensburg has won five, including four in the last five seasons. Kutztown has won three women’s titles, and Lock Haven has won twice. 

Defending PSAC 60m dash champion Danielle Smith of East Stroudsburg holds the top seed in the event with a time of 7.69. Smith beat-out second ranked Kiara
Allen
of Millersville (7.70), a year ago with a time of 7.68. Smith is also ranked second in the 200m dash (25.25), an event she also won in 2014. She ranks behind Slippery Rock’s Jasmine Bailey, who holds a seed time of 25.16.  

Shippensburg’s Megan Lundy is seeking another 400m dash championship title, as she currently holds the league’s top spot in the event with a seed time of 56.58. Lundy is the lone PSAC athlete to have recorded an NCAA provisional time in the 400m this season.

In the 800m run, defending PSAC champion Janine Powis of Slippery Rock is ranked second behind last year’s runner-up Allison Gibbens of Edinboro. Gibbens has the top seed time of 2:14.42, while Powis owns a time of 2:14.94. 

California’s Alexandra Zanella is the only PSAC athlete to have provisionally qualified for the NCAA championship in the mile and holds a time of 4:57.47. She finished second in the event a season ago with a time of 5:02.57.

Bloomsburg’s Kate Dodds is ranked first in both the 3000m run (9:47.07) and the 5000m run (17:12.53), while Edinboro’s Kasey Jones holds the No. 2 spot in both races with times of 9:53.26 and 17:21.89, respectively. Jones took second in the 3K last season with a time of 10:12.31. 

Seton Hill’s Jenna Bracken, who finished in second place last season, holds the fastest seed time in the 60m hurdles (8.93). 

Shippensburg set a new league record in the women’s 4x400 relay earlier this season and is ranked first in the conference with a combined time of 3:50.75. Bloomsburg holds the top spot in the 4x800 relay (9:45.77), while California ranks first in the distance medley relay (11:48.03). 

In the field events, East Stroudsburg’s Christina O’Connor is seeking another PSAC title in the women’s high jump, as she ranks first in the league with a height of 1.73m (5’ 8”) - a .3m improvement than her winning jump a year ago. 

Slippery Rock’s Courtney McQuaide and Kaitlyn Clark both hold pole vault heights of 3.68m (12’ ¾”) to lead the league. Clark won the event last year after a jump off against Bloomsburg’s Kelsey Davis

Slippery Rock’s Breana Northcott has the league’s top seed mark in the weight throw with a distance of 16.76m (55’), while Shippensburg’s Elizabeth Ross is first in the shot put with a toss of 14.07m (46’ 2”). Just behind Ross is defending PSAC champion Kayla Owens of West Chester, who holds a seed mark of 13.35m (44’ 1.5”). 

Shippensburg’s Sarah Hunt leads all competitors in the long jump and triple jump with marks of 5.96m (19’ 6 ¾”) and 11.64m (38’ 2 ¼”), respectively. 

Slippery Rock’s Sabrina Anderson owns the No. 1 position in the pentathlon with 3,527 points, while Edinboro’s Brianne Dietrich is the only other PSAC athlete to have provisionally qualified for the NCAA championship with 3,434 points.
