Lock Haven, Pa. – Clarion’s Kristin Day has been chosen by the PSAC Senior Woman Administrators to represent the league in the 2015 NCAA Woman of the Year program.

NCAA member colleges and universities nominated 480 female student-athletes – the most ever in the history of the program – for the Woman of the Year award. Of the nominees, 207 competed in Division I, 93 competed in Division II and 180 competed in Division III athletics.

Now in its 25th year, the Woman of the Year award honors graduating female college athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in academics, athletics, service and leadership.

Day was one of five outstanding women nominated by PSAC institutions. As the conference nominee, Day’s credentials will be forwarded to the Woman of the Year selection committee, which chooses the top 30 honorees – 10 from each division.

Day was the Elite 89 winner at this year’s NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships with a flawless 4.0 GPA. Day, also the 2014-15 PSAC Pete Nevins Scholar-Athlete of the Year, graduated with a chemistry degree and a concentration in biochemistry. The recent NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipient will begin medical school this fall at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine.

The Reynoldsville, Pa. native was named the 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-America of the Year for Division II, becoming just the second winner ever from the PSAC. Day is a three-time NCAA Division II Diving National Champion and eight-time career All-American. This past season she claimed first on the one-meter board while finishing fourth on the three-meter board at the NCAA Championship. In 2014, she captured first on both boards in dominating fashion, setting a three-meter springboard record of 539.35 points and winning by more than 50 points. Day was also named the 2014 College Swimming Coaches Association of America NCAA Division II Female Diver of the Year.

From the top 30, the selection committee determines the top three nominees from each division and announces the top nine finalists in September. The NCAA Committee on Women’s Athletics then chooses from among those nine to determine the 2015 NCAA Woman of the Year.

The 2015 NCAA Woman of the Year winner will be announced, and the Top 30 honorees celebrated, at the annual award ceremony Oct. 18 in Indianapolis.
