ERIE, Pa. --- The Gannon Lady Knights captured the PSAC Volleyball Championship after staving off a fiesty Pitt.-Johnstown team, 27-25, 26-24, 25-23, at the Hammermill Center Saturday evening in Erie, Pa.
Gannon improved to 30-3 on the season and earned an automatic qualifer to the NCAA DII Volleyball Tournament. UPJ fell to 24-9.
The tournament field will be announced Monday, Nov. 21 at 7:30 p.m.
The championship marked the second time in Gannon history (2012) that the Lady Knights claimed the conference title.
A quartet of Gannon players turned in double-digit digs, including a match-high 18 from Hannah Kren. Kren was named the PSAC Volleyball Athlete of the Year on Thursday.
Beka Smith paced both squads with 16 kills while Kelsey Ansec added a dozen. Ansec earned MVP honors following the match.
Smith and Lexi Johnson accumulated eight block assists each.
The Lady Cats were lead by Marissa Erminio with 10 kills while Devan Orr amassed 17 digs. Orr was named the PSAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Year for the third consecutive season.

PSAC VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT PREVIEW
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. --- Gannon earned the No. 1 seed in the 2016 PSAC Volleyball Tournament while the field of eight was released Saturday following the conclusion of regular season play.
All four quarterfinals will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. at the higher seed.
Gannon claimed the top spot after posting a 16-2 conference record and 27-3 overall mark.
Edinboro grabbed the No. 2 seed while boasting a 15-3 mark and held the tiebreaker with Pitt.-Johnstown.
UPJ landed the No. 3 seed while winning the Central Division and winning 22 matches during the regular season.
California used a sweep of Clarion Saturday to earn the No. 4 seed after going 13-5 in conference play.
Shippensburg claimed the No. 5 slot while Seton Hill is No. 6.
IUP earned the No. 7 seed while West Chester rounded out the field at No. 8.
The semifinals will take place Friday, Nov. 18 at 5 & 7:30 with the title match scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 19 at a time to be determined.
