PSAC Announces Spring Top 10

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Pennsylvania State Athlete Conference is pleased to announce its Spring 2016 Top 10 Award recipients, chosen by the league's sports information directors. The PSAC Top 10 Awards are designed to recognize student-athletes who excel in both the classroom and in athletic competition.

Initiated in the 1997-98 academic year, the Top 10 Award is given to five males and five females in each athletic season: fall, winter, and spring. The Spring 2016 Top 10 Award winners are Sabrina Anderson of Slippery Rock, Tyler Falk of Clarion, Saioa Gomez de Segura of Mercyhurst, Alex Hampel of IUP, Morgan Huegel of California, Bridget Hufnagel of Millersville, Megan Lundy of Lock Haven, Colin McKee of Mercyhurst, Travis Toth of East Stroudsburg, and Alex Zanella of California.

It is the fourth time that Anderson and Zanella are receiving PSAC Top 10 recognition. Huegel and Lundy are receiving the honor for the third, while Toth and Hampel are each being honored for the second time in their careers.

Listed below are the biographies for the Spring 2016 PSAC Top 10 Award winners:

6753 Sabrina Anderson, Slippery Rock University
Outdoor Track and Field - Junior
Major: Exercise Science (Minor: Business Administration)
GPA: 3.901

Anderson earned All-American honors in the heptathlon this spring, finishing 10th at the NCAA Championships. She was a PSAC Champion in the event and finished in the top 10 in the conference in the 100m hurdles and the high jump. She earned all-region honors in the heptathlon and the high jump and was named CoSIDA Academic All-District for the second straight year. In just three years, Anderson has already completed all the requirements for her degree in exercise science and has been admitted to the Master's of Business Administration program at SRU.

6754 Tyler Falk, Clarion University
Baseball - Junior
Major: Finance
GPA: 4.0

Falk was named a CoSIDA Second Team Academic All-American this year. The junior has never missed a start for the Golden Eagles in his three years on campus, a streak of 115 straight games. The first baseman led the team this year in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, hits, walks, and RBIs this year.

6755 Saioa Gomez de Segura, Mercyhurst University
Tennis - Sophomore
Major: Business
GPA: 4.0

Gomez de Segura was the PSAC West Athlete of the Year in 2016 and is being named to the PSAC Top 10 squad in her first year of eligibility. She finished the year with a record of 26-2 at number one singles. She also played number one doubles. She was All-PSAC First Team in singles and All-PSAC Second Team in doubles. Gomez de Segura was the PSAC Singles Tournament Champion in the fall and was also the Ita Singles Tournament Champion.

6756 Alex Hampel, IUP
Outdoor Track and Field - Senior
Major: Nursing and Biology
GPA: 3.98

Hampel earns PSAC Top 10 recognition for the second time this year, also earning the honor in the fall for cross country. He was the NCAA's Elite 90 winner in the fall. On the track, he was All-Atlantic Region in the 10k. He finished in fifth in the event at the conference meet. He was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team this spring and was on the CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team this fall for cross country.

6757 Morgan Huegel, California University
Outdoor Track and Field - Senior
Major: Mathematics (Secondary Education)
GPA: 4.0

Huegel posted the second-fastest time in the 800m for the PSAC this spring and placed fourth at the PSAC Championships in the event. He also earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors. Huegel finished his time at California with a perfect 4.0. He is a two-time PSAC Champion Scholar, a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District selection, and a four-time USTFCCCA All-Academic.

6758 Bridget Hufnagel, Millersville University
Lacrosse - Senior
Major: Social Work
GPA: 3.81

Hufnagel set a program record for points this season, recording 81 points (60 goals and 21 assists) for the Marauders. She was named All-PSAC First Team and IWLCA All-Region Second Team for her work on the field, and she was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America At-Large Third Team for her work off of it. She was second in the league in goals per game, fifth in points per game, and eighth in draw controls per game.

6759 Megan Lundy, Shippensburg University
Outdoor Track and Field - Senior
Major: Early Childhood Education
GPA: 4.0

Lundy was named All-PSAC in the 400m this spring, an honor she has earned in all four of her years on campus, both indoor and outdoor. She graduated from Shippensburg with a 4.0. She is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team honoree, a two-time PSAC Champion Scholar, a three-time NCAA qualifier, and a 16-time PSAC place-winner, including the eight top three finishes in the 400m. Lundy is also an active member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

6760 Colin McKee, Mercyhurst University
Baseball - Senior
Major: Biology
GPA: 3.70

McKee was dominant this year for the Lakers, recording a 1.82 ERA in 15 starts and earning the honor of PSAC West Pitcher of the Year. He was also named NCBWA All-Region First Team, NCBWA Region Co-Pitcher of the Year, D2CCA All-Region First Team, and a Tomko Award Finalist. The senior was drafted by the Houston Astros the Major League Baseball Draft in the 18th round (546th overall). He was also named a CoSIDA Academic All-American.

6761 Travis Toth, East Stroudsburg University
Outdoor Track and Field - Senior (Graduate Student)
Major: Exercise Science
GPA: 3.88

Toth was named the PSAC Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year this spring after he set the PSAC record in the hammer. He was the PSAC Champion in the event and earned All-American honors with a fifth place finish at the national meet. Overall, he is a three-time All-American, a four-time PSAC Champion, and a five-time national qualifier. His three All-American honors are tied for first in East Stroudsburg history.

6762 Alex Zanella, California University
Outdoor Track and Field - Senior (Graduate Student)
Major: Reading Specialist (Graduate) / PreK-4 Education (Undergraduate)
GPA: 3.93 (Graduate) / 3.96 (Undergraduate)

Zanella repeated as the PSAC Champion in the 800m this spring and also helped the 4x800m relay team capture the conference title. She also broke the school record in the 5k this yearend reached NCAA provisional standards in the 800m, 1500m, and the 5k. She was named USTFCCCA All-Region in all three of those events. She was a CoSIDA First Team Academic All-American in 2015 and a three-time CoSIDA Academic All-District selection.
