Millersville Selected as PSAC Men's Soccer Favorites
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Millersville Marauders have been picked first in the PSAC Men’s Soccer Preseason Poll by the league’s head coaches.
The Marauders were the runners-up in both the regular season and the conference tournament in 2015. Millersville returns two all-conference performers in Christoper Sosa and Kyle Finsterbush, but lose Jaime Vazquez, the 2015 PSAC Athlete of the Year.
Millersville received three first place votes.
Despite recording seven first place votes, the defending regular season champions from Mercyhurst were picked second in the poll.
The Lakers lose last year’s PSAC Defensive Athlete of the Year (Thomas Davis), but return Mark Roche, a 2015 PSAC First Team All-Conference honoree.
Gannon finished seventh in the league last season, but is picked third entering 2016. The Golden Knights return their top four scorers from last year as well as starting goalkeeper Jorge Hernandez.
In fourth place in the poll is Slippery Rock, the 2015 PSAC Tournament Champions. SRU received a pair of first place votes. There will be 22 returning players for the defending champions.
Steve Small will be at the helm for The Rock, his first season with the team. Small was an assistant at Millersville since 2007.
Rounding out the top five is Bloomsburg. The Huskies fell in the PSAC Semifinals last season to Millersville.
California was picked sixth, while West Chester is seventh, and Seton Hill is eighth.
Lock Haven, Shippensburg, East Stroudsburg, and Pitt-Johnstown round out the poll.
