Two PSAC teams won their first round games last week and one will makes its debut this week after a first round bye, leaving three PSAC teams still alive in the NCAA playoffs as the second round rolls around this weekend. In round two, it will be two rematches from games earlier in the season, both of which were high-scoring affairs. Freshman Xuan Gao of Lock Haven has been named both the PSAC East Athlete and Freshman of the Year while Lock Haven head coach Tom Justice is the PSAC East Coach of the Year for the second straight year, while California&rsquo;s Joanna Nist became the second straight Vulcan to be named the PSAC West Athlete of the Year as she garners the award this year. Gannon took the other two awards in the West as freshman Morgan Reineke is the Freshman of the Year while head coach Matt Darling is the Coach of the Year. A total of six PSAC volleyball teams will begin play in the NCAA Tournament today at the Atlantic Regional, which will run from today through Saturday. The eight regional winners will then advance to the Elite Eight, which will be held on December 3. The duo helped their respective teams to a combined 5-1 record in dual meets over the last week. Clarion's Bethany Koch is the first PSAC West Athlete of the Week of the season after helping the Golden Eagles to a 2-0 start with two wins in the Clarion Classic, which included a 25-point, 15-rebound performance in one game. East Stroudsburg's Duane Johnson, who is one of four freshmen likely to see significant minutes this year for the Warriors, is the East Freshman of the Week. Mercyhurst's Heiden Ratner, in his first game as a Laker, recorded a double-double with 10 assists and he is this year's inaugural PSAC West Player of the Week. The title was the fourth straight for the Huskies, the second time they have accomplished the feat, with the first four-peat stretching from 1996-99.
