IUP Captures Team and Individual PSAC Men's Golf Titles

Hershey, Pa. - IUP shot a team total of four-over par 580 to claim the 2008 PSAC Men's Golf Championship title on Sunday as all five Crimson Hawks finished in the top 10 in the individual standings. This marks the second straight year that the Crimson Hawks have won the PSAC Golf Championship, but this year is the first year that the men's and women's conference championships have been divided into two separate championships.

Leo Acklin of IUP shot an even-par 72 to finish the tournament at three-under 141 (69-72) and claim the individual title. He was named the MVP of the tournament as well. Teammate Cory Stelick finished second at even par 144 (69-75). Two Clarion Golden Eagles followed in third and fourth place, as Jared Schmader shot a two-over 146 (74-72) and Justin Cameron was one shot behind him at three-over. IUP's Gavin Smith finished fifth while there was a three-way tie for sixth with Clarion's Ross Pringle and Mike DeAngelo and IUP's Brad Boyle. California (Pa.)'s Brian Batko placed ninth and Ryan Kennedy of IUP rounded out the top 10. Those ten individuals are automatically named All-PSAC.

On the strength of four of its individuals finishing in the top 10, Clarion finished in second place with a 17-over par 593, 13 strokes behind IUP. Cal placed third, 28 strokes behind Clarion. Millersville placed fourth, Gannon took fifth, West Chester sixth, and Mercyhurst rounded out the field in seventh.
