Lock Haven, Pa. – Led by three runners in the top 10, Edinboro University captured the 2008 Men’s Cross Country Championship at Lock Haven University’s Foundation Field course.
Sophomores Ben Hahn and Barry McLaughlin led the charge for the Fighting Scots, placing second and fifth, respectively, while senior Nick Hankins finished in ninth place. Chris Lantinen also earned All-PSAC recognition for his top-20 finish, as he finished in 19th place, while teammate Kyle Jones just missed out of those honors by placing 21st.
For the Fighting Scots, it was their second straight team title and 27th overall in 51-year existence of the championship.
Edinboro totaled 56 points to edge out runner-up Slippery Rock, which came in with 65 points. The Rock had four All-PSAC runners, as well, with Jeff Weiss (3rd) and Pat Reagan (4th) leading the way. George Walton (16th), Jason Leonard (17th) and Kevin Dustin (25th) finished out The Rock scoring.
The top four runners all broke the course record, led by individual winner Chris Clark of California (Pa.). Clark eclipsed the old record by over 40 seconds, finishing the 8K race in 23:56.
With four more All-PSAC runners, Lock Haven placed third among the 16 teams with 85 points. Shippensburg (100 points) and Bloomsburg (149 points) rounded out the top five.
