Charlie Parker of Millersville and Ryan McLemore of Edinboro have been selected by the basketball coaches as the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Athletes of the Year. Parker represents the Eastern Division and McLemore the Western Division.

Freshman Ryan Washington of Kutztown and Darryl Webb of Indiana (Pa.) were chosen as the Eastern And Western Division Rookies of the Year, respectively. It marks the second consecutive year that Kutztown and IUP have claimed Rookie of the Year honors. Honored by their peers as league Coaches of the Year were Cheyney’s Cleo Hill, Jr. (East) and California’s Bill Brown (West).

Parker, a senior guard out of Fawn Grove (Kennard-Dale HS), is now a two-time Athlete of the Year selection after winning the award a year ago. Parker led his team to the PSAC Tournament as the Eastern Division’s No. 3 seed before falling in the semifinals to Edinboro, 74-58. The senior will now lead the Marauders into the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive year with Millersville earning the East Region’s No. 6 seed. Parker, who averages 16.5 points (8th – PSAC) and 5.3 rebounds per game, will try and avenge the postseason loss to the Fighting Scots in the Marauders rematch at the East Regional when they take on No. 3 Edinboro in the opening round. The senior ranks first in the PSAC in assist to turnover ration (+1.80) while ranking second in both assists (4.66 per game) and steals (2.69 per game). He is 16 points away from becoming Millersville’s second all-time scoring leader with his 1,913 points. He also ranks second in MU history with 280 steals (3rd all-time – PSAC) and fourth in Millersville history in assists (444). Including this year’s selection, Parker is now a four-time All-PSAC West First Team Selection.

A senior forward from Cleveland, Ohio (St. Pete Chanel), McLemore has been a dominant inside force for the Fighting Scots this season, especially on the defensive end. McLemore set the NCAA II single-season blocks record (166) and the PSAC single-game blocks record (12) while averaging a double-double with 10.9 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. The senior has helped guide Edinboro to the PSAC Championship game three times in the last four years, winning titles twice. He currently ranks first nationally in blocks per game (5.6 ) and will lead his Fighting Scots into the NCAA East Regional this weekend at California. McLemore is part of a senior class that has won a school record 89 games during their four-year span.

A freshman from Glenside (Wissahickon HS), Washington was a key component to Kutztown’s success this season. He finished as the team’s leading rebounder at 7.7 per game while starting 16 of 19 games played. Washington also contributed 9.1 points per game to go along with 61 assists, 38 blocks and 29 steals. The rookie recorded 10 games in double-figures for scoring as well as posting three double-double efforts, highlighted by a 19-point, 13-rebound performance against District of Columbia. Against Millersville he posted a career-best 18 rebounds.

Webb, a freshman from Elkridge, Md. (Long Reach HS), led IUP in scoring (16.5 ppg) and rebounding (8.5 rpg). Among freshman, he ranked first in the PSAC and seventh overall, while also finishing as just one of two freshmen to rank in the league’s top 25 for scoring. He topped all rookies in rebounding (3rd – PSAC) and tied for ninth in blocks (1.16 pg). Webb recorded nine games with 20 or more points and also posted nine double-double performances. He led his team in scoring on 14 occasions, including 10 of the Crimson Hawks first 13 contests. Webb was also a second-team selection.

Hill, Jr., captures his first Coach of the Year Award in his five-year tenure at Cheyney. He led the Wolves to their second consecutive PSAC Tournament appearance, third overall, and guided Cheyney to its first appearance in the NCAA East Regional since 2004 with its No. 5 seed. The Wolves will take on No. 4 Alderson-Broaddus this weekend at host California (Pa.). The Wolves finished tied with Kutztown for the Eastern Division regular-season title at 10-2, losing only to Kutztown and East Stroudsburg. It marked the first time since the 2003-04 season that Cheyney captured at least a share of the Eastern Division title. The Wolves current record of 19-9 also marks the first time since 2003-04 that the Wolves posted 19 or more victories in a season.

Brown, in his 12th season at California and 22nd as a college coach, captures his fifth Western Division honor and second in a row. He is the winningest coach at California, now with a 255-96 record. This season, he guided his Vulcans to a share of the regular-season Western Division crown while winning the program’s first PSAC Tournament title since 1999. As the host and No. 1 seed of this weekend’s NCAA II East Regional, the Vulcans own a 25-5 record and will look to capture its first NCAA East Region Championship since 1996. Under Coach Brown, the Vulcans have won or tied for the PSAC West title eight times, have posted eight 20-win seasons, have made the PSAC playoffs in 10 out of 12 seasons, and won two PSAC tournament titles.
