Edinboro, Pa. - Lock Haven snapped Edinboro’s two-year reign as Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference cross country champions on Saturday morning. The Bald Eagles conquered the soggy conditions on the Doug Watts Cross Country Course to finish with 39 points, as four runners finished in the top ten. The Fighting Scots had to settle for second with 53 points, while Shippensburg was third with 73 points. East Stroudsburg (121 points) and Bloomsburg (164 points) rounded out the top five, as 15 teams competed.
It marked Lock Haven’s fifth overall conference championship, all coming since 2003. The Bald Eagles won the title from 2003-06 before Edinboro claimed the crown in 2007 and ’08.
Lock Haven’s Nick Hilton and Brandon Pomerantz finished one-two with times of 26:17.5 and 26:25.6 over the 8K course. A.J. Johnson added a sixth place finish (26:40.0), and Mitch Miller was eighth (26:47.9).
Edinboro actually had all five runners earn All-PSAC accolades, led by Chris Lantinen, who came in fourth with a time of 26:39.4. It marked the third All-PSAC honor for the senior. Ben Hahn also picked up All-PSAC honors for the third time as the junior came in seventh with a time of 26:44.8. Hahn was second a year ago.
Shippensburg also had five All-PSAC performers, with Matt Gillette the top finisher, coming in ninth (26:51.9).
Indiana(Pa.)’s Hillary Mogun, a freshman from Kenya, came in third with a time of 26:33.6, but no other Crimson Hawk finished higher than 38th as IUP came in sixth.
Matt Grey of Slippery Rock rounded out the top five individuals, as the junior crossed the line in 26:39.8.
