Three PSAC Teams Selected to NCAA Field Hockey Tournament

Three-time defending champion Bloomsburg is No. 1 seed, joined by Shippensburg, East Stroudsburg

Lock Haven, Pa. - Three PSAC teams have been selected to play in the 2009 NCAA Division II Field Hockey Tournament, which begins this weekend with quarterfinals on campus sites.

Three-time defending national champion Bloomsburg (20-1) is the No. 1 seed out of the South Region for the second straight year. As the top seed, the Huskies will get a bye into the semifinals, which will be held on Friday, November 13 at 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. at WB Mason Stadium on the campus of Stonehill College in Easton, Mass. The championship is scheduled for Sunday, November 15 at 1:00 p.m.

PSAC West champion and PSAC Tournament runner-up Shippensburg (19-2) is the No. 2 seed in the region while East Stroudsburg (14-6) is the No. 3 seed. Shippensburg will host East Stroudsburg in the first round matchup this Saturday, November 7 at 1:00 p.m.

In the North Region, Stonehill drew the top seed and the first round bye and in the semifinals, will host the winner of the first round game between Bentley and UMass-Lowell, which is also scheduled for this Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Bentley.

This marks the second straight NCAA appearance for Shippensburg and the eighth straight appearance for Bloomsburg, which has won six out of the last seven national titles.
