NCAA Release
The Lock Haven and Mercyhurst women's lacrosse teams have been selected to play in the upcoming NCAA Division II women's lacrosse tournament. The Lady Eagles and the Lakers, who split their two regular season meetings in PSAC West play this season and were the Western Division's two representatives in the PSAC Tournament two weekends ago, will meet for the third time this year this Saturday, May 9 at Lock Haven at a time to be announced.
Lock Haven, the PSAC West and tournament champions, defeated Mercyhurst on the road by an 18-16 score back on April 16. That win avenged an earlier loss to the Lakers at home back on March 26, when the Eagles fell to Mercyhurst by one goal, 13-12 for their only PSAC West loss of the season. Although both teams qualified for the PSAC Tournament, they did not face each other as Lock Haven topped Bloomsburg in the semifinals and Mercyhurst fell to West Chester before Lock Haven topped West Chester in the championship game.
The Lady Eagles are the No. 2 seed in the South Region while the Lakers are the No. 3 seed. The winner of Saturday's quarterfinal contest will advance to the NCAA semifinals and will face No. 1 seed Limestone on May 16 in Salem, Va. The championship game is scheduled for May 17. Lock Haven fell to Limestone by one goal, 11-10 back on March 6 in its second game of the season. Mercyhurst did not play Limestone this year. No. 1 seed Adelphia, No. 2 seed C.W. Post and No. 3 seed New Haven make up the North Region of the bracket.
