Mercyhurst Falls to Shepherd in Regional Final

Erie, Pa. - Shepherd broke open a close game by scoring four touchdowns in the fourth quarter and 35 unanswered points to finish the game as the Rams topped Mercyhurst 49-14 in the national quarterfinals/regional championship game. With the win, it marks the first time since 2003 that a PSAC team has not won the regional title and it is also Shepherd's first regional title in program history.
The game was tied 14-14 at halftime and the Rams led just 21-14 after three quarters but Shepherd scored on all three of its fourth quarter possessions, not including the kneel-down on its final possession, and also returned an interception for a touchdown while forcing Mercyhurst to punt on two of its four fourth-quarter possessions while recording interceptions on the other two.
Tommy Addison rushed for 135 yards and two touchdowns while Nate Hoyte ran for 109 yards and four touchdowns as Shepherd outgained Mercyhurst on the ground 238-34. Mercyhurst QB Travis Rearick completed 22-of-47 passes for 191 yards and a touchdown but was picked off four times, including the one that was returned for a TD. Terrance Coon caught eight passes for 107 yards but PSAC West Offensive Player of the Year Trevor Kennedy was held to just three catches for 24 yards and just 47 punt return yards on three returns.
