Bloomsburg, Pa. - Behind three individual title winners and two runner-up finishes, Clarion ended Edinboro's five-year reign as PSAC champions and claimed the PSAC Wrestling Championship for the first time since 1994. The Golden Eagles racked up 135.5 points, well ahead of second-place Bloomsburg with 110.5.
Edinboro was third with 109 points with Lock Haven fourth with 93 points, while Gannon rounded out the top five in fifth with 54.5 points.
In addition to the team title, Clarion’s 197-pounder Alex Thomas was named the tournament’s Outstanding Wrestler after winning all four of his matches by fall.
The individuals titles were spread out as team champion Clarion, runner-up Bloomsburg and third place Edinboro each had three individual champions. Fourth place Lock Haven had the remaining individual titlist.

125-Edinboro’s Evan Yenolevich earned a second-period takedown and a third-period takedown with 29 seconds in the match to defeat Bloomsburg’s Sean Boylan 4-1. Boylan did earn an escape with nine seconds left in the contest, but it was not enough and Yenolevich psoted a 5-1 win with riding time.
Jose Matos of Gannon finished third with Alex Abramat of Millersville taking fifth.
133-In the first 50 seconds of the match, Clarion’s Joe Waltko and Bloomsburg’s Nick Wilcox both scored takedowns for a 2-2 tie. A takedown at 1:45 in the first period put Waltko up 4-2. Later with the score tied 4-4, Wilcox scored a second period takedown to go up for good 6-4. In the third period with Wilcox leading 6-4, Wilcox got an escape then a takedown for a 9-4 lead. Wilcox then went on to post the 10-6 win.
Evan Kolb of Lock Haven was third and Simon Rice of Shippensburg fifth.
141-Clarion’s Cameron Moran recorded a takedown at 1:45 of the first period against Bloomsburg’s Derek Shingara to go up 2-0 in the match. In the second period, Moran recorded an escape at 1:33 to go up 3-0. Shingara found momentum with two seconds to go in the second period notching a takedown to cut the deficit to 3-2. A takedown at 1:28 in the third period put Shingara up at 4-3. At 1:00, Shingara got a near-fall to go up 7-3 but Moran got a quick takedown to cut the lead to 7-5. Shingara put the contest away with a late takedown to take the match 9-6.
Mike Greck of Millersville was third and Justin Loudon of Lock Haven fifth.
149-Edinboro’s Torsten Gillespie got a takedown at the 1:47 mark of the first period to go up 2-0 on Gannon’s Ethan Swope. An early second-period escape by Gillespie put him up 3-0. A takedown at 1:14 in the second period pushed the advantage to 5-0 Gillespie. An escape by Swope halfway through the period cut the lead to 5-1. A late second-period Gillespie takedown gave him the commanding 7-1 lead. During third-period action, at 1:09, Gillespie iced the match with a takedown, making it 9-1. An escape by Swope halfway through the final period made it 9-2. A final takedown by Gillespie made it a 12-2 final.
Anthony White of Clarion was third and Keneth stank of Shippensburg was fifth.
157-After a scoreless first period between Clarion’s James Fleming and Edinboro’s Johnny Greisheimer, Fleming recorded a reversal and a takedown and led 5-0 at the 1:15 mark in the second period. Greisheimer earned a takedown at 1:10 in the third period to cut the deficit to 5-2. Fleming got an escape late in the third period to go up 6-2 and followed with a takedown for a 10-2 win.
Frank Hickman of Bloomsburg was third and Seth Creasy of Lock Haven fifth.
165--After a scoreless first period between Bloomsburg’s Josh Veltre and Bekzod Abdurakhmonov, Abdurakhmonov recorded an escape very early in the third period to take the 1-0 advantage. An escape with nine seconds left in the third period by Veltre knotted the score up at 1-1, but Abdurakhmonov got a late escape to take the match 2-1.
Zack McKendree of Gannon was third and Colton Spade of Lock Haven fifth.
174--A takedown at 1:43 in the first period gave Bloomsburg’s Mike Dessino a 2-0 lead over Millersville’s Shane Smith. Dessino recorded the pin and the victory at the 2:51 mark in the first period.
Michael Khoury of Lock Haven was third and Chris Hrunka of Edinboro fifth.
184--Edinboro’s Christopher Honeycutt recorded a takedown at 1:23 in the first period to go up 2-0 on Bloomsburg’s Nate Graham. An escape late in the first period by Graham cut the lead in half at 2-1. A takedown by Honeycutt very late in the first period gave him a 4-1 advantage. A near-fall early in the second period put Honeycutt up 7-1 and Graham countered with an escape to cut the deficit to 7-2. A takedown by Graham and an escape by Honeycutt made it 8-4 halfway through the second period. An escape early in the third period put the Honeycutt advantage at 9-4 and he iced the bout with an escape and takedown in a 12-4 final.
Steven Cressley of Clarion finished third with Brendan McKeown of East Stroudsburg fifth.
197--Just seconds into the first period, Alex Thomas took the 2-0 advantage over Edinboro’s Shawn Fendone with the takedown. Fendone got back within one at 2-1 with an escape. Thomas posted another takedown just seconds later to go up 4-1 early then got his fourth pin of the day just 51 seconds into the match.
Michael Pollard of Mercyhurst was third with Tyler Zittle of Shippensburg fifth.
285--It was a scoreless first period between Edinboro’s Ernest James and Lock Haven’s Harry Turner. James recorded two escapes late in the second period to go up 2-0. Turner countered with a takedown to tie it at 2-2 but an escape very late in the second period by James put him up 3-2. In the third period, Turner knotted up the match 3-3 with an escape. Two takedowns late by Turner iced the match at 7-3.
Quintas McCorkle of Clarion took third with Stefan Tighe of Gannon fifth.
