Yi opened up the season by defending her title at the Daniel Walker Invitational hosted by Buffalo State. Her winning time of 18:32 was eight seconds better than teammate Danielle Cerroni, who finished in second place. Yi and Cerroni paced an Edinboro group that had four of the top five runners while beating out nine other squads for the team crown. It marked the second straight season that Yi set a new record on the 6K course.
