Abbey Freund of California and Hannah Heeter of Clarion Share PSAC Champion Scholar Award for Volleyball
Lock Haven, Pa. - A pair of sophomores shared the PSAC Champion Scholar Award for the volleyball championship as Abbey Freund of California and Hannah Heeter of Clarion co-earned the honor.
The PSAC Champion Scholar Awards are modeled after the NCAA's Elite 89 award and honors the student-athlete with the top grade point average who is competing at the site of each of the PSAC's 23 team championship finals. The selection criteria for the Champion Scholar Awards is identical to that of the NCAA Elite 89 awards, which honor the student-athlete with the top GPA at each of the championship finals sites of the 89 NCAA championships across all three divisions - I, II and III. Freund and Heeter are the inaugural winners of the Champion Scholar Award for the volleyball championship. Over the last four weekends, the inaugural Champion Scholar Awards has been given out for the men's and women's golf and cross country and soccer championships, as well as the field hockey championship. Tomorrow, the inaugural award will be given out at the football championship.
Freund is a sophomore setter for the Vulcans and has 3.969 grade point average while majoring in communication disorders. She has compiled 35 credits. A native of Cottage Grove, Wis., she is a graduate of Monona Grove High School.
Heeter is also a sophomore and is an outside/middle hitter for the Golden Eagles. She also had a 3.969 grade point average and has compiled 35 credit hours while majoring in chemistry. She is a native of Seneca, Pa. and a graduate of Cranberry Area High School.
