California, Pa. - Kristen Orrett, a senior back on the California women's soccer team, has been named as the recipient of the PSAC Champion Scholar Award for the women's soccer championship.

The PSAC Champion Scholar Awards are modeled after the NCAA's Elite 88 award and honors the student-athlete with the top grade point average who is competing at the site of each of the PSAC's 23 team championship finals. The selection criteria for the Champion Scholar Awards is identical to that of the NCAA Elite 88 awards, which honor the student-athlete with the top GPA at each of the championship finals sites of the 88 NCAA championships across all three divisions - I, II and III. Orrett is the inaugural recipient of the award for women's soccer. Over the last three weekends, the inaugural Champion Scholar Awards has been given out for the men's and women's golf and cross country championships as well as the field hockey championship. Tomorrow night, the inaugural Champion Scholar Award will be given out for the men's soccer championship.

Orrett is a senior majoring in secondary education with a focus on social studies. She currently has a 3.98 grade point average and has accumulated 112 credit hours. She is a native of Pickering, Ontario and a graduate of Pickering High School. She is the first foreign-born student-athlete to pick up a PSAC Champion Scholar Award.
